Slough v Hillingdon

Sadly couldn't make it today, turns out it takes a while to drive back from Edinburgh, but understand we were unlucky not to win. Let's hope we get the right result Tuesday when I should be able to make it.

1 - 1 draw and scrappiest game I've seen so far. In other games I've seen us keep it on the deck, pass it well and play some decent football for at least some of the game. Today we mostly hoofed it up the centre or gave it away. Shame cos Hillingdon weren't up to much and we should have been able to beat them. Ref as usual was useless and should have got the red card out when Tom Attrell was put into the wall.

What's the view on Tom? I think he had a decent game and as his confidence grows he'll be a really good player. Can't say the same for Stanley. He seems too lightweight; a boy in a man's game. How did he stay on for the 90 minutes?

Barnard, Ellis, Murphy, Wilko, Harper, Mets, Roddis, Attrel, Stanley, Davies and Charles with Daly (on for Harper in second half), Tuttle and Gill on the bench.

Decent performance unfortunately after the incident with Tom we lost our heads and our shape. How the ref saw anything legal about that shove i have no idea, and we were lucky that Tom wasn't seriously hurt by the brick wall!

We looked good going forward some of the time and created some good chances - Davies hit the bar - but looked leaky at the back Hillingdon got round the back a lot especially down our right hand side.

Having had a good view of the incident of the tackle which ended up with Attrell crashing into the wall, I have to say I didn't see too much wrong with it. There was no malice from their player and it was refreshing to see, despite some colourful language from the support right in the face of the opponents, some of their players check Thomas was ok.

Their player slid in to block the cross from Thomas, but he was just unable to keep the ball in. The momentum of the two players took them into the wall and Thomas did thump into the wall.

Fortunately, Thomas was ok and able to continue but we'll be patched up for the replay on Tuesday with Harper, Roddis and possibly Jeffreys all missing through suspension. Woodruffe, Browne and Mills missing through injury today as well.

Replay is on Tuesday with a 7.45pm kick off and we are entitled to 50% of the gate after expenses, as they were today.

no, the player's christian name was stanley, though i'm afraid i don't know what his surname was. I actually thought he looked pretty promising...he ran rings around the defence but just didn't stick his head up enough to see where the pass should have gone, but i think that'll come with experience.

I also thought the challenge on Tom looked nasty, but i was up in the stand and therefore further away than Gary, so will bow to his superior view. smile

Although it did become scrappy for the last 25 mins of so, i thought we were unlucky not to get the win today. Good performances from Barnard, Wilko, Harper, Charles, Attrell and Davies again and as i said previously, Stanley looks promising.

Tuesday is certainly going to be hard work with so many injuries and suspensions, i wish the boys the best of luck because they deserved to go through today. Sadly, i won't be able to make it though.

At this level it's likely that players will have come from other local teams so not sure you can hold that against him - unless his name is Jarvis of course. OK, his kicking is woeful but not for the first time in his short Slough career he kept us in it today with a spectacular double save.

As for 'the' incident I suspect the angle you were at, Gaz, might have masked what I saw as a clear intent on their players' part to help Thomas into the wall. That said, we toughened up a bit after that which we needed at that time of the game.

Look on the bright side - when was the last time we went two games unbeaten?

I actually agree with Gary, and i'm as bias as they come! I thought we made a big deal about nothing with the tackle on Attrell from where I was. I think the frustration was more to do with the fact we just conceded. The guy's momentum took Tom into the wall when hemade the tackle.

Personally I thought we were a bit lucky today. Thought Harper and Barnard were excellent, but we were down to the bare bones and did well to force a draw in the end.

Oh, and did anyone notice the female Hillingdon fan behind the goal 2nd hlf - very nice ;-)

I thought it was a very good, fast, cup game. We had the first half on possession, and they nearly got us on the break a few times.

The second half was going down our usual route until the wall incident. Then we got fired up.

In my opiniion, Tom was MOM. Yes he got pushed off the ball a few times, and there was that incident with the wall, but he was always running at players and trying to get the ball back.

Let's hope we can get something in the replay, with those players missing.
