Can we have a...

Fair enough, though I disagree re Bastian; when fully fit, he's the best of the lot. Jamie Nay, though instinctively a defensive full back, has enough skill on the ball to make a decent job of it. And he has the bonus of the long throw.

It might have proved a good combination, although i'm not completely comfortable with having right-footed players on the left.Either way,Baldwin should never have been prefured as Left-wing back at the expense of Woodward.Another case of trying to fit too many centre backs into the formation.

Father Jack and Barney are both exactly right in what they are saying. Someone suggested that when certain players aren't available we should change it back to a 4-4-2 or whatever, I understand the point, but I think that is one of our problems at the moment. JC seems to do a little too much tinkering at the moment I feel, mainly with the line-up (there have been injuries granted), and I'd like to see the best available 11 on the pitch for a period of time in order to bond as a unit. Ok we have a large squad, but we are not a pub side where the manager should be trying to give everyone a game.

On the whole I feel we should decide on a formation for all the lads to work to (personally a 3-5-2), and stick with this for a period of time so that the players can get comfortable with it. Rudi Hall and Stevie.V both need to be playing in my book and having a 5 man midfield allows for this. Campbell, Nay, Negus, Bastian, all good enough to play at wing-back, and from past experience we play our best football in this formation.

3-5-2

We get caught by the quick break when our opponents miss out the midfield. It ends up with 2 against 3 and often the wide central defenders are no where so we have 2 against 1.

We are also ponderous going forward and, at times, the midfield gets in each others way. Our midfield do not look for the wide wing backs, they do not switch sides with long passes (Except Stevie V) so even with 3-5-2 we end up playing the ball through the middle.

I go along with 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with Bryan Hammett one of the 3 forwards in 4-3-3 or behind the front two of Ricci Crace and A N Other in 4-4-2.

I am told that JC is looking at another central defender. I do not believe that is what we need. We are scoring pitifully few goals and this is where strengthening is required.

As I said, I favour 4-3-3, but one of the front 3 must be a natural winger. Failing that, 3-5-2 is preferable to 4-4-2, as too many of our players react to being asked to play 4-4-2 as though being asked to juggle soot.

Another thing; if, when playing with 3 at the back, we get caught on the break and the wide central defenders are nowhere, then they're not doing their job! Adam Gant is particularly good at this covering job, as were the likes of Curtis Warmington and Paul Brush at the old club.
