Reserves- Whistable Town 4-7 MFC

After some disappointing performances in previous games, the reserves had to take a trip to the Belmont and play a strong Whistable side with a few first team players playing.

Margate started brightly passing the ball around quick on a slick surface. They soon took the lead with a powerful shot executed by Payne from about 25 yards out which flew into the top left hand corner. Whistable stepped up the pace but the impressive Jake (sorry no last name) and Harker withstood the pressure. Margate then doubled their lead with Hoggart brilliantly crossing the ball in and Taylor bringing the ball down and smashing it in the top corner.

With Margate looking in control, a quick free kick by Whistable was latched onto by the forward and chipped over the on rushing Lamprell.

This didn't stop Margate and immediately replied with a succession of corners and the sustained pressure paid off as Hoggart scrambled the ball into an empty net from Brown's pass.

But then 10 minutes before half time, an attack down the left side by Whistable caused Payne to lunch in and award the home side with a penalty. Whistable number 10 stepped up and powered the ball heading towards the bottom left hand corner but was brilliantly saved by Lamprell keeping the scoreline at 3-1.

Second half kicked off and Whistable were exploiting margates left hand side swinging dangerous balls in. Another chance landed to whistable with the ball being struck low and hard to the left hand corner from 8 yards but was tipped around the post by Lamprell. Whistable deservedly got a goal curling it into the corner halving the difference. Then a quick free kick by Payne landed to taylor who scored to make the scoreline 4-2.

Further goals from Brown and 2 from substitute Chris Lewis rounded the day off making the total to 7 and whistable gettina devious penalty and a conseltaion finishing the game off.

A very entertaining game for the neutral leaving last years 3rd place finishers beaten by the new promoted margate reserves. Final score 7-4.

Margate: Lamprell, Allen, Jake, Harker, Hindley, Hoggart, Summers, Kechi, Payne, Taylor (Lewis), Brown

After tomorrows home first team fixture, will the next home game show as reserve game against Whitstable on saturday (think the following Tuesday also a home reserve fixture.

Seems sensible to me to show the reserve games ,particularly with shortage of home first team games in October.

No, is the simple answer. That box on the home page is linked into the first team fixtures database etc. However, If I'm given an updated list of the next few fixtures I will add a news story and link to the Reserves news on the bottom of the home page. Alan?
