Billericay Town players playing Sunday League

Recommended Posts

Just wondered what people thought about this as I happened to be at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford on Sunday and saw our very own George Lay playing for a team called Lokomotiv Billericay. By playing for them is he not risking his fitness and ability to perform for Town if he's playing park football on a Sunday? Is this even permitted? I don't know about his contractual obligations but I would have thought if he was a paid player this would prohibit him from doing this.

was thinking about this earlier as i saw a thread about esl players playing sunday footy.

Surely if you had a greivance with a player playing on a sunday then you should of gone directly to a club rather than posting it on an open forum. That is what i would of done.

My own opinion on this is that players playing senior football should be true to the club and their fans.By playing on a sunday they risk serious injury and this is cheating the fans. But this case seems different as it seems that the lad is gaining match fitness after being out injured so i guess theres no harm done.

George had a terrible injury that put him out for for well over a year, he's had numerous operations which include the insertion of rods, pins, plates, and all sorts of screws.

George is now on the way back, and working extremely hard to regain his previous level, I know that every decent human being would wish him well.

Our friend simon-Bertie smalls-cartwise clearly doesn't fall into the category of decent.

At ryman prem standard though kaiser i would think it was poor of a player risking his clubs fortunes by playing on a sunday. The fans pay to watch the players in the team and if one of those players got injured it could ruin a teams season.

On this case though it seems as if the player needs the fitness which i find strange that bertie smallsy the so called ricay fan didn't realise when he saw "his teams" player playing yesterday

It's hard to imagine that anyone with even only the slightest knowledge of BTFC and Georges injury would find anything objectional about him playing Sunday League.

This guy's obvioulsy shot himself in the foot.

Fair shout there Gazza.

I dont think it matters UM. Unless they have it written in their contract that they can't play Sunday football, they are entitled to do whatever they wish.

Does that mean they can't do a bunjee jump, or eat strange foods???

I think its up to the player as to what he does. If I was playing Ryman Prem standard, then I probably wouldn't play.

I have played against a few Ryman Prem players on a Sunday, as well as a well known Ryman Prem manager!

Diz - nosh me! grin
