Fisher game comments

We had only one shot in the first half, Charley, straight at the keeper. It was just one-way traffic. Fisher were faster, first to every ball, nicking it off our toes from every pass. They seemed to have the run of the park, and really our defence did well to keep the score to 1-0 at half time.

The second half began with a beautiful curled free kick into the top corner and at 2-0 we were down and out.

Their forwards Goulding and Tomlin were running riot and it was just a matter of how many we would lose by. Or so it seemed.

We threw caution to the wind and went all-out attack. Big Robbie came on and suddenly we started to rattle them. Before you knew it he had scored.

Then they opened our defence again and it was 3-1. Again it seemed like there was no way back, but our boys seemed to grow twice as determined and twice as quick.

The young lad on loan Karl K-A did some lovely ball control before setting up Charley for the second and we were back in it.

It’s funny how a game can turn. To be honest I think the main thing was the introduction of Howarth, and to an extent Watson. With these big boys against them Fisher just looked terrified. The game was won up front in the air.

I will let someone else describe goals 3 and 4, because I was too delirious to remember what happened.

It is the biggest contrast of two halves of football I think I have ever seen.

Player ratings (feel free to disagree!):

SCS 8; some great saves in the second half, without which we really would have been sunk.

Smith 7, Young 7, Trott 7, Skinner 7. No individual was to blame for the goals.

Harte 6 (not suited to the right wing), Saunders 8 – key man in the middle throughout the match, Morris 6 – unfortunately took a knock before the fightback, Jackson 7. Sub: KKA 8 – some lovely touches.

Pinnock 7 – ended on the right wing, Side 9 – never gave up when we were losing and took his goals well. Subs: Haworth 9 – made all the difference, Watson 8 – also played a big part in the revival.

Margate supporters who couldn’t make it, you missed the most exciting turnaround of recent years, certainly since I have been watching the Gate. As a game 10/10 without a doubt.

Not sure what Fisher fans would make of it. I suppose they will say their team threw it away, but that wasn’t so. Perhaps they were over-confident and took their foot off the gas, but that is to take nothing away from our team, because they didn’t know when they were beaten and came back like tigers.

We were poor in the first half, but in the last 20 minutes we were playing them off the park and playing the best football we have played for a while. We battled more in the second half even when the game seemed to dead and buried. They should have gone down to 10 men just before there 3rd, BUT WHO CARES WE WON 4-3!!! laugh

What you hear and what you see are completely different things.

What you have to remember is that Fisher are a full time team and therefore they are going to be a lot fitter, they were also quicker then us and were extremely physical.

Was that Paul Nichols? as for right back, why get rid of Oates?

This afternoons disaster

Oh dear! What went wrong? We scored three goals against a team from a lower division than us, it should have sufficed.

The glamour of the FA Cup is that the little fellows get to have a tilt at the bigger guys, and sometimes they manage to unhorse them: it is just our luck that today we were the bigger guys and the little fellows performed a great act of giant killing in the finest tradition of this esteemed competition. I can only wish Margate the best of luck

Maybe next year eh?

C'MON THE FISH!!!

Hard to take Dave but yes, well done to Margate.
