ETU League cup game tuesday

Its that time of year when we can debate whether this is a worthwhile competition, and whether we want to progrss or not.

For me, it is an important competition, as lets face it, we probably won't win the FA cup; and whilst cup games are a bit thick and fast in October, realistically we could be out of all 3 cups-trophy,EON and league cups by mid October.

That means fans interest dwindles, and lower attendances.

Just like today, any win creates interest;and come mid January, we may be very grateful to have some interest in the League cup.

Plus of course ,it is an opportunity to play-maybe 3/4 younger players-no more-as we need to win.

Last season ,everyone was complaining that the younger/fringe players did'nt get a chance-well this is the competition to give 3/4 a chance ;but with the majority of first team players so we still try and win, take it very seriously and progress.

Again, come January, we will be very pleased if we are still involved in the league cup.It may not be an exciting prospect today, but it definately will be later in the season

Yes, would be a chance to 'blood' Bowles in goal, have another look at Axon / Morris & Moir and give Mark Watson a place in the lineup as a starter. If we have enough 'experience' on the bench - why not? Could even give Macca twenty minutes to see if he's ready to play again.

Actually, i am saying we should take it seriously.

Play no more than 3/4 'fringe players';but yes take it seriously.

If we don't progress.,there is no other chance really to try the fringe players so its a bit of a Catch 22 situation.

Plus, whilt today, it seems like a game we don't need, come Jan/feb next year, we would love the extra midweek game this sort of competition provides.

My team for tuesday: something like this:

Bowles

xxxxxx Smith Heath? skinner

Axon Morris(is he injured) KCA Moir

Watson xxxxx

subs: Lamprell,Trott,Howarth (watson and Howarth to play half each)McKimm

only prob with cup matches and a small squad is injuries , if i were Trotty i would not be so worried about this cup compotition let the fringe players have there fame in this one and concentrate on the FA cup and FA trophy with the 1st team even though these could cause a headache with people getting unwanted knocks but cup matches do also bring in wanted Revenue which all clubs at our level reley on so much . Nothing like a bit of collusion !!!

'I tell you what Lee-i'll play a weakened side if you do aswell'.

Some things maybe left unsaid !!

Commenting on the injury situation at Margate in the context of this league cup tie, Manager Robin Trott said, “We were struggling before the (Fisher) game with knocks, and we’ve picked up some knocks through this game as well.

“We’re going to play players who haven’t played recently; we’re going to give them a run out. I think they need a run out as well, they’ve been patient. I think they deserve it.

“I’ve spoken to Lee Patterson (East Thurrock Manager) this week anyway to see what team he’s going to field, and he’s going to make a few changes.”

Reality of the modern game - it's a squad game even at Ryman Premier level, and below. Liverpool will swap it round for the League Cup, so do Dover, East Thurrock and Margate. Not sure I agree about the use of the word "collusion". For me, it sets up what could be a very good cometitive game which I'm sure wouldn't be the case if neither side made any changes.

I read that Dover got knocked out tonight.

Again, no one cares at moment, but they are out of FA Cup, out of League cup, and possibly could go out of trophy in next couple of weeks.

Yes-they are creaming the league, but if fortunes fall, there is nothing much left to their season.

All cups bring excitement and stimulate interest.

Thats why i really want to see Margate progress in this league cup.

I think most of us accept that whilst we always hope, we are not necessarily expecting(unlike last season) a top 5 position;so any cup competition is vital to keep the season flowing, and to give the fringe players a chance to shine.

Its not much good to them if we don't progress beyond tomorrow, they need more than one game to get a chance in; so i really hope we go and have a great win tomorrow night

Its needed to keep the interest up come Jan/feb and the dark winter months
