Reds Fall To Barwell

Barwell completed the league double over the Reds, in a match of few chances, indeed it took 3 speculative goals to get a result in front of a crowd of 75.

 

The match started in spectacular fashion, with keeper Afandiyev producing a brilliant save to deny Bullimore after just 30 seconds. After 5 minutes Barwell's Percival shot just wide, although the pace soon slackened it was still an end to end battle, with either side looking likely to break the deadlock.

 

A low, hopeful poke from Thornhill on 20 minutes, some 20 yards out, through a static Willenhall defence, remarkably found it's way into the corner of the goal, to give the advantage to the visitors.

 

The Reds levelled the game on 38 minutes in bizarre fashion when J Smith lobbed the ball skywards, from 35 yards out, the ball returned to earth, and grazed the post, hit the keeper and bounced into the goal.

 

Barwell struck the killer goal just five minutes into the second half, Percival struck the ball, a wicked swerve took the ball into the roof of the net with the keeper well beaten.

 

Willenhall's best effort came on 63 minutes when Dunkley capitalised on some sloppy defending, with just the keeper to beat his tame effort went straight into the keepers arms.

 

Sub Bromley, could have grabbed a late equaliser when on 86 his close range header was tipped over by Afandiyev.

 

Town now visit another Leicestershire side on Saturday when they travel to FA Vase semi-finalist's Oadby in a league match.
