tPoints or Pleasure

This is not meant to have a go at LD or AK it must be a difficult option for them.To me we started pre season playing some fantastic football holding the ball and playing to feet.It now seems that we have gone to the long ball system. This may have been forced on him due to the injury problems.People even say that this is the way LD wants it played at the moment.Over the last to many years to mention watching the Fleet ive always been proud to say that how ever bad weve been we have always tried to play entertaining football. For me last night gave me no pleasure watching the game but we got the 3 points. So could we please have a little bit more entertaining football please.

Crikey, you're treading on dangerous ground there Maxman. My advice is don't go there. In fact, don't even think of going there!!

Some will say you ARE having a go at LD & AK.

Some will say 3 points are all that matters.

Some will say entertainment is the most important thing.

Lets put it to the vote.

Three points will win 99.99% of the time.

Stevenage play entertaining football, they conceaded four last night and away to Forest Green! I'd rather have hair like Alan Kimble than lose four goals to two away to Forest Green Rovers.

4-2 away to Forest Green??!!??!!

Seriously though I see your point and that's fair enough but I would take another 30 games like last night over entertining football every time.

I actually think the crowd thing is far deeper rooted than just the entertainment bit. We had a blinding striker last season, were playing some great stuff and still the crowds stayed away.

Issues that affect the crowd are:

Entertainment

Value for money

Accommodation

Facilities

Safety (of cars outside the ground)

All these things have to factored in, but at the end of the season, if we haven't got enough points, we will go down, which is the LAST thing we all want.

As you will see and could have predicted Gary this is what I have said. But you seem to bemoan it, can I ask why? You seem to be saying that anyone that has that opinion is wrong, why?

I appreciate Maxman's opinion but I have a different view, are you not always on here asking for healthy debate? This is what I've given you but for some reason you don't like it. Can I ask why?

Build it and they will come, Rome wasn't built in a day etc...

I didn't go in the Ryman Championship winning season Gary so will have to ask for your knowledge but what were the attendances that year? Were they bigger than they are now? Was the football more entertaining? It was certainly cheaper, value for money, what's that(?) if you want it enough and you can afford it is it not value for money? Facilities would have been some of the best in the league at the time and I wouldn't have a clue of the cars were being broken into then.

One of our highest attendances in recent years was the Notts County game in the FA Cup. A myth was that the attendance was so high just becuase we were on TV, well we were on TV last night and it wasn't so high so you have to assume that it's because it was a League team. They were playing in the third tier of the Football League, currently League One, at the time.

So just imagine we play cr*p football for the next 30 games and get our 1-0 wins everytime. Not only will we be in the record books but we'll be in the League and then we'll see attendances return, I guarentee it. So build it and they will come but Rome wasn't built in a day!

Its much more simple than that, We don't get decent attendances because we don't have very many fans.

Simple isn't it.

We don't have very many fans because we never have had, we don't have a hardcore support of a couple of thousand committed fans who will turn up to every match because they always have done.

If we got promoted Harry we would probably get two thousand to the first few games but they wouldn't be fans they would be hangers on turning up for the novelty value and they would not be there on a cold January Tuesday night against Morecombe.

The Notts County match was the FA Cup Harry and televised on Sky and was advertised in advance that it would be live on Sky, should we be fortunate enough to have a cup tie against league opposition televised on a channel that people have access to this season I daresay we will get a decent gate.

That was when we were playing 3-5-2 and the extra man in midfield gave us more confidence to push forward. Because of injuries we have had to change to a 4-4-2 system which seems to have stified our midfield so much that we have taken to bypassing it completely.

Hopefully with the return of Ricketts and Barrett, we can revert to the old formation and start playing proper football again.

Ooh, Mr David, you naughty man. This is unashamed CG baiting. (Will he have bitten before I even get this posted?) We all know, it's only since Liam saw the light of Gary's 442 logic that we have started picking up points agin.

Personally, I think both systems have their strengths & that we should be able to play both, but more importantly still, whichever system we play, there has to be flexibility & adaptibility built in, as long as you are asking players to do jobs they are confident with.

True, true although it might also have something to do with the opposition.

When sides put our defenders under pressure they hoof it long but when the opposition drops off and allows our defenders time on the ball they might actually look to pass it.

Whatever formation we play it won't work against Manchester United but it would stand a fair chance against Spurs.

No need to be sorry I enjoyed the 3 points but on reflection we did not give Ashly any real problems I can not think of one passing move that resulted on a real shot at goal which for a home side is a bit dissapointing.I will take all the points any way we can get them but I would like to see a bit of style as well.
