Billericay Score Updates by Text & Web

I get a bit hacked off trying to put the updates into this forum via mobile from the match, so I'm trying something new.

 

From now on (starting with Maidstone on Saturday), if I'm at the match (and I hope to make most home and away games this season) I'll be using Twitter.

 

To get updates on the web go to: http://twitter.com/btfc

 

Twitter also makes it possible to send the same updates via text message, but I won't make this available until I understand the cost implications to users (although I think it may be free). I don't want anybody getting a nasty surprise in their mobile bill!

To get the updates via SMS, send "follow btfc" to +447624801423 and you will receive a text alert for each goal, and HT & FT scores.

 

As far as I can tell this will be free for each alert you receive, but you will probably be charged at normal rate for the initial "follow btfc" text.

 

If you prefer you can create a free account with Twitter and manage your subscription/phone details from there.

Is there a update number for any other scores? I'm just thinking for half time annoncements...and perhaps full time after the game.

Not unless some other punter from another club sets it up for themselves. I'll be the one entering the BFTC updates into the system via text message live from behind the goal. It's not a commercial service at all - just me utilising Twitter's free service to provide a useful (?) service to Billericay fans who can't make the game.

I was relaying your updates from Folkestone to The Non-League Radio Show via email on Monday, where they got read out on air. Quite funny really 'coz we were more accurate than their "official" news bulletins. Shame it wasn't better news.

Yes. She seemed please when Holmes got their injury time winner as well, although to be fair she didn't pass comment on our result.

 

I got a name check as well. Felt a bit guilty as you'd done all the hard work while I was sat at home on my PC Still funny hearing "Rick the Dick" being mentioned on the Airwaves!

Does this mean that it's actually possible for us overseas fans to subscribe to this too?

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work in Norway. Obviously your initial SMS request will be charged at international SMS rate as it's to a UK number, but I'm 95% sure you won't be billed for receiving the alerts after that. AFAIK it's only in USA that people pay to receive texts.
