I don't understand people who can "follow" all the local teams but fair play to you.

This was a thread about that crap we watched on tuesday. WHY has this turned into a slag Steve daly thread? I must admit, personally, i think he is 'shot' as a player, but he is still our best centre back, who was voted supporters player of the year last season...? I didn't vote for him(super George!), but alot of you did! He has never been been the fastest, and now he is older you all still expect to see him streaking back like Tyson Gay after he has come up for a corner!

I'm sure if he wasn't commited he wouldn't have played half as many games for this club? After all our money worries and strife,year after year, who has stayed through it all.....Steve Daly! Thats right, we were crap, he never played, and we slag him off? I worry about half of our supporters sometime. We are entitled to opinions, but to slag off a player because he misses a few games? Same as ever, players like Woody, Daly,Miller, get grief even when playing well, and yes sometimes, they make errors, you never hear the end of it. Then you get players like John Mills, terry Davies, and Nobody ever criticises them! On tuesday, terry stomped around like a spoilt brat, trying to shoot from ridiculous angles when a team mate is in good positions, slagging of team mates if their pass wasn't straight to his feet, but when he hit a crap pass (when he bothered to pass) it was everyone elses fault. Terry is without doubt our most skillfull player, wish he would start playing football and stop acting like my three year old nephew! Now that was a rant about someone who played that game, and I don't have enough room to start on Roddis!

Who ever said how many goals is Daly responsible for!!!!!!!!!!!! How many goals has any defender been at fault for? If he never made a mistake, got back for every taclke, won every ball in the Air he'd be playing for Man Utd!

As for great ex centre backs, Steve isn't amongst my top ten, and I am Glad someone remembers Mark Foran, but what about the Greatest Ever Scottish player!, Gary McGinnis. Fantastic player, and an effing nice bloke! and what about Peter Day?! Before my time, but have been assured by a few older ( I mean well old) he was the best headerer of the ball they'd ever seen!

 

Martin, as for comparing watching Slough Town to watching a Beckett play.......

Nothing happens( we get beat, again), nobody comes(or defends), nobody goes(wish I hadn't on Tuesday), it's awful (wasn't it just!)

isn't that saying something about the team that a player who is 'shot' is still our best centre-half? Personally I think Daly and Wilko should only be used sparingly as their legs simply can't keep up at this level, but because of the lack of quality in the squad they are simply going to have to keep playing

Glad you mentioned Gary McGinnis as well, he was awesome. God that team was so good. I'd love to be able to go back in time and watch them play again - some of the real youngsters would be amazed at the difference. I was never sure f this was true but I heard that Gary McGinnis played in the Hong Kong XI that drew with England prior to Euro 96 - just before the infamous dentists chair incident - and that when he joined us he turned up at Wexham Park with his boots strung together hanging round his neck looking for a game. Even if that is all nonsense he was still great so assured on the ball and a cracking defender. Happy days.

Barry, you are bang on there, they will have to play more often,when they should be rested. wilko's legs may have gone, but he is ten times better than mets and roddis.

 

Martin, that team was great to watch. What a back line. Angus, Hercs, McGinnis.

could be wrong, but didn't Thornes sell Stowell, Bolt, and Lloyd when they pulled us out of conference?

they sold everyone, so it wouldn't surprise me. And besides, Matty Stowell is the answer to the famous trivia question "Who scored our last goal in the conference?"
