LIVE COMMENTARY: MFC vs AFC

Wellsie

Was a good enough game to me, first 15mins excellent passing & believe I saw a few set-piece plays in there. Of course we slowed down later, cant keep that pace up forever. Goal was well executed & clad it came in off post rather than the usual "Ding,....F... .t!" we usually achieve.

Second half had a bit of role reversal to it but end to end until last 15mins when pressure increased, SCS could not have saved many more than he did 2day (First save(s) were top drawer).

In all a fair result as visitors tonight played some good football too, spoke to their fans after game & agreed on most points.

Not shabby at all, a few wafty passes & a few moments of sitting on the ball till it was taken from but have seen us play a lot worse & still called it a good game.

Up The Gate, Thru The Door, In The Fridge....Job Done!!

I'd say 100% improvement on Saturday's performance. Good effort and commitment. Still need to better our disipline though. Howarth's return will look like we're capable of more goals.

Where was Watson though-is he injured? Thought he looked really promising against Hendon. Hope he wasn't dropped.

Made me chuckle when Wellsie announces "don't know the Wimbledon scorer 'cos I can't see the numbers but the sub is number 16 but we don't have a name for him". Classic!

Greatly improved over Saturday, but still we were lucky to get away with it. It could easily have been 2-1 or 3-1 to them but for good keeping and luck.

Special mention for Saunders who I thought was Gate's man of the match by some distance, although SCS saved well in the second half. Also, it is good to see how much his kicking has improved over last season.

Howarth did well considering not match fit. It will be good to see him back up front giving us something to aim for. Again I thought Side put in a better show than Pinnock, despite the goal.

The experiment with Harte on the right wing did not work as he is too defensive minded. I realise we had nobody fit for that position. Somebody remind me what position Yanni plays, and when is he expected back?

Trotty was sound in the middle with Young, although I have been increasingly pleased with the Young/Smith partnership.

The opponents played nice flowing football, keeping it down most of the time. They have the talent and the speed, but are let down in a couple of areas. Ferguson was terrific, and there was no way Skinner could live with him.

A point saved IMO.

Agree, 100% improvement on Saturday. Trotty's experience shone through on a number of occasions with a couple of class tackles.

I also agree we were lucky at times to get away with it but, no more so than the full time, rested all day, not been to work since what time ever, Wimbledon guys.

Is it just me, or as Pinns lost a little of that legendary stamina. Last year he ran upto the whistle, this year he seems to slow down in the last 20 Min's.

It was nice to see the big man come on, it took a while but he soon got into the back flips and to holding up the ball. He had one jaw dropping burst of pace down the left, leaving the nippy defender for dead. Felt sorry for young Morris when a very promising move broke down when no one moved or indicated where they wanted the ball.

Man of the Match, "TROTTY". Solid, class tackling, reading of situations.

If that was PA then not me on this occasion. Steve Ball was in the chair. Having said that, I have made similar announcements.

'Tis me who is guilty m'lud!
I am sure Wellsie would back up the panic that goes through you when you cannot see who is who!
I am going to push for a UEFA directive to ban black numbers on red shirts during night games..anything beyond the half way line was impossible to see!
So imagine my pleasure when desperately trying to see the number of who scored meant I missed the boards being held up for the sub, so did not know the number of the player who came off! Then to cap it all, I saw the number 16 on the back of the subs shirt but had been given numbers 12, 14, 15, 17 and 18.
We won't go into the 'turn the terrace lights, off, turn them on, turn them off, turn them on' fiasco!

Eh? We don't have any full time players. Only the Manager is full time.

the place is packed with full time paid staff.....thats the beauty of working for the fans...they pay you and give you company cars and expense accounts... unlike tight fisted normal NL clubs who demand slave labour from their volunteers... grin
