todays performance

No point hiding it or trying to sugarcoat it, Saturday's performance was dreadful. Never looked like creating a goalscoring opportunity, let alone actually scoring. Really missed Macca and Standen (who would have thought that a couple of seasons ago), although Jay and Morris did put themselves about. But I feel that in the midfield is where we really lost the game, just outfought and overrun in the end.

We have to improve a considerable amount if we are going to succeed at all this season. Trotty disappointed me; it's games like Saturday where the manager should earn his money. Didn't even hear a peep from him all game.

Anyways, roll on Tuesday, eh...?

Its difficult to say what is really needed. My priority would be a striker. In Side and Pinnock we have 2 of the same, both working away like beavers on and across the edge of the box, both needing that big man to get into the box and create that elusive space.

I would fine both Dean Standen and Justin Skinner a months wages. To have picked up bans from bookings at this stage of the season is inexcusable, in Justin's case to man handle the ref deserves a sending of in its own right. A months wages would serve as a lesson for the future.

Hopefully Tuesday, the midfield will sort itself out with the return of Dean Standen.

I thought our defence coped well enough Saturday. I don't find myself cringing like i did in the last couple or three seasons when the ball goes near them. Although i admit i think we could still do with a older head to carry on with Dan and Lewis's education.

Of the other defender Stuart Harte was my man of the Match.

The only other area of the field i have not mentioned is the Keeper. Am i the only one out there not impressed by Scott Chalmers-Stevens. I have seen him punch 4 times this season, these have led to 3 out of the 4 coming back into the goal, 1 going in, 1 hitting the post, 1 being cleared of the line, all this when they could be have been caught. i would have dropped him with proper competition after the howler at Hastings. In Matt Bowels we have one for the future, a good young keeper who if called upon would not let anyone down. This season though i do not see him as the source of the necessary competition for top spot.

See you all tomorrow, i was going to see the Reserves at Ramsgate but i think the draw of Wimbledon is to great.

will settle this year for a top ten finish but must have a good cup run somewhere then next year when the 5aside is bringing in a certain amount of money then i would expect to see something happen which would be promotion , you could`nt expect nothing else . BUT we have to beat the Wombles tomorrow they are still there for the taking . Up the Gate.

Just how soon does anyone really think that the 5-a-side pitches are actually going to generate money to enable the club to bring in new players? I would have thought that the pitches will have to recoup their initial cost plus their running costs before any money is available for the football club. Very much in the same way as The Hartsdown no doubt will have to recoup the costs of the refit and staff etc. So I'm not holding my breath on that one yet but I would love to be proven wrong.

It has already been stated that the 5 a sides will pay off the investment partners first Drummer so I think it will be a while until monies go into the playing budget unfortunately.

Cheers Taffy Alan - I hadn't seen a reference to that before, maybe its living in SE London that does it! Its common business sense anyway and given The Hartsdown situation to which I referred, again to me common business sense, what it really gets down to is the performance on the pitch, both getting results and making it attractive for the local residents to support the team, that is going to count. The football side is going to have to stand on its own two (or twenty two)feet in other words.

Its nothing to do with money as Trotty had a budget double this years last season and done nothing with it.

Money can only buy you a certain amount of success its down to the way you organise and build the squad that matters.

Ramsgates budget is still a third of Margates this season just the players are well coach motivated and will run through walls for them.

Drummer I thought you would have a better knowleage of whats going on living near to most of the players and near to our training ground.

I wonder if We will train down hear once the pitches are up and running or still travel to bexley twice a week.

bigtw, the point that I was simply trying to make is that I cannot see that a lot of money is going to be generated for the football side from The Hartsdown or the 5 a sides, at least in the short term, and that the football club has got to stand on its own two feet with the money generated from that source. How that is done is down to performance on the pitch and this involves players, management and supporters all working together. I have been around long enough, working on tight budgets in various operations, and know what you have to do when you try to get the proverbial out of a rocking horse. I don't know what RT's budget is or was so it's not fair for me to comment on that.

I am afraid that I don't have a better knowledge than any of you in Margate, despite living in the SE London area, as I don't socialize with the players or management, or know where any of them live. Just a thought though - they don't still train in Bexley do they? As far as I am aware they used to but hasn't that now changed?

I still think that the key to it is everyone working together and the football club doing the business itself.
