Billericay 1-0 Basingstoke

Recommended Posts

As predicted a tough game, but we definately shaded it on chances. Mark Graham scored the only goal of the game from the spot, Douglas and Fewings both hit the woodwork whilst the stoke keeper made a couple of good saves. Basingstokes best chance came after 30secs when their no 11 spooned over when facing an open goal

And the team was:

JJ, Williams, Kerrigan, Adedeji, Gilley, R.Graham, Penn, Douglas, Fewings (Church), M.Graham, Morris

Subs not used: Pitts, Savidge, Alexander, Fay

Good to see some of the youngsters having good games, Gilley was excellent at the back marking McAllister whilst in centre of midfield Morris was also excellent, winning tackles and playing some good short passes.

the turning point was the shocking miss from basingstoke in the first minute. after that i thought we played some good stuff in the first half and deserved the lead.

second half we reverted to type defending the lead and altho bstoke had better possession we had the better chances hitting the woodwork twice.

agree with simon on gilley and morris and also thgt fewings had a good game up top.

a look at the table makes you wonder what might have been if we were able to hold our squad together.

the most disappointing feature was the appalling crowd..whilst not expecting too many from bstoke due to distance..i think it proves that getting rid of/trying to get rid of your best players half way through the season is not "good housekeeping" as it is a false economy as people are voting with their feet. the absentees may never return. you reap what you sew.

Well done Andy Walsh, great prediction.

I thought the team and Mgmt would have to work hard for a result and they did just that. They gave their all.

Agree, special mention for Gilley and Morris, superb.

MOM is difficult. In these type of games it goes to the team.

I enjoyed the game. Hats off to B'Stoke supporters. Very vocal in a very quite crowd.

And lastly Jeff King at the game last night.

Buying more players ? surely not.

Asking us to beat Aldershot ? No need to ask.

South Essex merger: Basilricay Island ? only joking.

I thought that last night was one of the rare occassions this season where we played like a unit. Everyone supported...And we looked dangerous up front. Douglas looked sharper and I think as he gets more games he could be a real "true blue"...If we keep him. Fewings as well played well and it is a shame that he is on the trasfer list as are the Graham Brothers....Ah well........It would be nice if we could have a settled squad and some favorites that stay loyal but hey, this day and age, money talks. This isn't knocking Chris Moore - I was very sad to see him go - a character and a good player - good luck to him. This brings me nicely to...

Our defence. As I said I was sad to see Chris Moore leave and also wondering what would happen to our strong defence but I think Gilley has got to be one of the most improved players we have. Him with Ollie - rock solid (although on one occassion my heart was pounding and I had to shut my eyes) and Gilley has shown that he can pass the ball...Something that Moore was a tad suspect on (the Chris Moore "scud" will be missed).

Nope, if the team apply themselves as they did last night then I think the rest of the season should be enjoyable but....the Graham brothers, Fewings leaving.......hmmmmmmm....

A win and a good solid performance was required last night and every single player went out of their way to deliver that - WELL DONE LADS. with regards to the current squad i would much rather us spend no/little cash on new players and use some young players around at the moment or reserve players, as these are the players who clearly have the hunger and desire for 1st team football and will battle on the pitch (look at dean morris last night). you dont always need large amounts of ability (grays) if you have players who really want to win FOR THE CLUB/TEAM. i feel if we can keep the backbone of the squad next season we will do fine.

finally it was a nice touch by jj last night who kissed the club badge at the end of the game, we need 10 outfield players who really want to win for each other and the club and that is how we will overcome this 'problem'. lets see as many fans at enfield on saturday, as we try and maintain some form.

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!

Well said Paul...I also thought JJ was a credit to the club he plays for last night with that touch....

Now then - Any "recently" lost supporters fancy a trip to Boreham Woods ground on Sturday?? -

Well deserved 3 points. One thing you can't accuse our players of is a lack of commitment and effort which was epitomized by the performances of Gilley and Morris. Mark Graham seems to be alot more relaxed over the last few games and Duggie and Fewings looked alot sharper. As for the attendance? Well it's just a shame that our stay away supporters aren't as zealous as our squad is!

Well done to the players and Management staff last night on what was an excellent performance against a good Basingstoke team.

All the players out on the pitch gave a 100% and worked well as a team and with a bit more luck in fromt of goal the result could of been all that much more better.

Just a shame that less than 250 people decided to turn out for this game. Everyone has there own opinons what happens at football clubs both on and off the pitch but how do the players feel when only less than 50% of the normal gate for a home game turn up.

So lets all get back behind our team and return to the terraces to cheer the BLUES on.

Probably one of the youngest Billericay teams for some time - with almost all the players 25 or under (Mark Graham is 28 or thereabouts and I think JJ and Ollie are about the same). All we've got to do now is work on beating some of the lower sides...... Sounds so easy doesn't it

Adedeji is 32.

As for Kingy being at New Lodge, I think it's players going from us to you as Calder was at Park Lane watching our Reserves thrash Romford 8-0 this week.
