Owls fans being sued by club over forum

Im posting this for some of my England mates from Sheffield

 

A little background on the situation....

 

As we all share the same interest - the beautiful game, we all participate in banter about our, and each others teams.

 

Well a select group of SWFC supporters have voiced their opinions on a fans forum and now the club that they have supporters through good times and more recently bad times, are suieing them for making comments.

 

Please sign the peition below if you agree that you should be able to speak out if you do not agree with your club being treated like a joke shop!

 

I would appreciate any other forums that this may get some support on.

I could reply with an epic to rival War & Peace here, but it would take too long to write and no one would be interested anyway !!

That's stupid, fans are entitled to their opinions, especially when they are paying fans who watch the games week in, week out.

The trouble with that though is we only have one side if the story, how can we make an informed decision?

 

How do we know the accused hasn't had previous warnings or isn't out to cause trouble?

 

Is signing that petition going to greatly enhance my life?

Maybe we don't know the other side of the story.........But........From the report, it seems as if the Chairman isn't exactly a Saint: Mark Lewis of George Davies Solicitors LLP in Manchester who is representing both Darryl Keys and Neil Hargreaves said, "I have never before known such a reaction. It seems that anyone who dares to criticise the board, risks getting a hugely expensive legal case against them. Emotions run high.

The chairman, Dave Allen is on record as calling fans "scum", "cretins"

and "a venomous bitch". It seems the fans are not allowed to answer back"

Complaints have been made against Mr Allen to the FA.

If the service the football club is giving you is not good enough, then you have the right to complain, The case was dropped against keys as they have prob have not got a leg to stand on.and more than likely the same with all the others, unless they attacked him, his family,or beliefs etc on a personel level and not about the club. This is allegedly lol

Sheff Wed got their first point on Saturday.....On every forum, you cannot break the libel laws...or you risk being sued.

 

Thats clear and obvious....there is opinion and mispresenting facts...2 different things

Just an update, for those that are interested, SWFC are not suing any fans but the High Court has ruled that the said website must reveal the identities of the posters of selected statements ( I don't know the content of the statements )although the offending items were removed by the website operator previously. SWFC will then decided what action to take, if any, against the originators of the postings.

 

So.......be careful out there !!
