New Lodge

I had no idea we only moved there in 1971 (the same year I moved to Billericay) as detailed here http://www.pyramidpassion.co.uk/html/billericay_town.html

 

Is this correct? If so, did anyone here see us play at the old ground (which I asssume should read 'Laindon', rather than 'Laidon') ?

Obviously I wasn't there to see it, but I understand the old ground was near Archer Hall (where Emmanuel Church is now)... The previous ground was in Laindon Road, not Laindon

 

I think the Norwegian site may have had a photo or 2, but it seems to be down at the mo...

The same site also says New Lodge was previously home to Outwell Common FC. I assume that should be Outwood Common. I wonder what happened to them?

 

It's a shame that BTFC history book didn't materialise. It would be fascinating!

We used to play on the ground that is now the school at the side of the Archer Hall, if it is still called that. I saw a few games there and even played there in my younger games usinig the now tea hut to change in.

I definitely "watched" many games there in the 60's with my dad - much the same way as Nathan now "watches" games at New Lodge with his dad now !!! I can certainly picture in my mind seeing football being played there and can just about remember peering down the hill trying to see where the new ground was being built. For some reason I seem to recall we wore yellow shirts blue shorts then, but that may well be wrong, I do remember we played teams like Old Chelmsfordians, Writtle and Bishop Stortford Swifts. Heck, it was a LONG time ago, really struggling to remember any more details ...
