Has Calder Given Players A Good Enough Chance?

Recommended Posts

It seems to me that Calder brings in players and doesn't give them a good enough chance.

For example does anyone remember Gary Dixon from last season. He played 4 games scored 2 goals and then we got rid of him. He is now at Boreham Wood and is one of the league's top scorers.

Other examples are players like Scott Forrester now at Boreham Wood and Olly Blackwell has been doing well at Braintree.

What do other people think, can anyone think of anyone else?

i know it's not really my concern, but he never seemed to do this when he was manager with us. And I'm surprised that he's changed the personnel so much but I guess he's got to be certain.By the way I'm hoping we steal 3points off you this Saturday!

Replying to Andy....

Looking at the players you mention:

Gary Dixon was on loan from Boreham Wood. As I recall we wanted to sign him but Wood were after too much money.

Scott Forrester - perhaps unlucky but if you look at the timing it would suggest he made way for Essandoh.

Ollie Blackwell. Have to admit, I was quite impressed but you can't deny the centre of defence has been one of our strongest areas this season, be it Moore, Adedeji, Gilley or Penn who's playing there.

I guess sometimes players have to grab their opportunities when they come their way - Bubb was given a start and got sent off, Wallace was given a start and went on a run of games scoring goals.

Bubb was given a start. Wallace got lot of chances before he went on a run of games scoring goals. It tells you a story.

Forrester didn't get a chance and how about Rantala? Didn't get a chance.

I was referring to starting games - Forrester started 5? games at the start of the season, including pre season friendlies and scored 1 goal. As I said above better players became available ie Essandoh so Forrester was perhaps unlucky. Rantala still a mystery though.

Ed Chibogu, Jimmy Sugrue - brought in to make up the numbers towards the end of last season.

Ben Cocklin, Scott Williams - promoted from reserves. I believe Cocklin still plays in the ressies, think Williams moved on.

Neil Day ?

Tommy Morgan - Moved to Enfield Town then broke his leg.

Pasi Pihamaa - Back in Finland

Jimmy Porter - Wasn't good enough Think he went back to Bowers.
