Away to Lordswood on a poor pitch Margate started the game with 2 wins out of 2. This was the first game I`ve watched this season and once again I do not know all the players names. Getting off to a good start Margate had success on the right with several good crosses. However, Lordswood got into the game and things evened out until Woods No4, who was a threat all game, beat Gates defence to lod Matt Bowles and off the bar. Wood smelt a chance and pressed keeping keeper Matt busy with some fine defensive work from the backs. It would be fair to say that Bowlesy had an outstanding game to keep a clean sheet. Margate fought back for end to end play and on 35 mins won a rather soft free kick just outside the box, Joe I think, struck the ball low to the left beating wall and keeper 0-1.

Second half and Margate slowly wore down Lordswood to make most of the play, with a few good chances going begging, and it was Wood who were holding on. On 60 mins a Gate play went down in the box, again rather soft, and the ref pointed to the spot. Dan GB struck a good kick, the keeper going the wrong way and it was 0-2. The game evened out but it was Wood who came on in the last 15 and there was several scrambled clearences. Ending 0-2 Margate were perhaps lucky to get 2 deadball kicks to score from and I would think Lwood think themselves hard done by. Men of the match, Matt Bowles with Dan Hughes a close second. Tom Hickman played his part with continuous coaching from the dugout. This team does not have the hard players of last year but is a good footballing side. 3 out of three should keep them at the top of the league.Well done lads.

Away to Horley Wed for FA youth Cup.
