"If" the young man is playing so well over on the south side of the island. Let this be a lesson to all those i have spoken to and been moaned to concerning a young boy and his performance Saturday.

Young Dan was slated by certain quarters of our support on a couple of showings last season after months of warming of the bench.

Good luck to the Boy.

I think a lot of people were sad to see Dan go to be fair. I do believe most were for him staying if I recall correctly.Dan was probably the ONE youngster that WAS well liked & appreciated by most over here as far as I can remember. It was Trottys decision to let him go & not ours!

Just one last thing.Who was it who released him so that he could come here in the first place?.........just asking!

You have a selective memeory Cookie Dan left Margate after coming on at Wivenhoe and playing a couple of good 30 minute stints Trooty then decided to leave him out of the team for the next 4-6 games he was then selected to play one tuesday evening from the start after not playing a competative match for over 4 weeks (like all the others last year trooty hyped them up then used them as bench walmers)He was not match fit and after about 15 minutes Dan was subjected to a bararge of abuse from Margate fans from just in front of the burger van which was frankly disgusting. I sat with Craig Tucker that night who was reporting and we both could not believe what we were hearing. I know for a fact that Dan was so proud to be playing for the first team that night and he had asked for his parents and grand parents to come and watch and I commented on this forum after that game how They were in ear shot of this abusive comments and felt personelly disgusted to support Margate that night. Dan never came back after that so good luck to him and It could happen to a nicer lad. Ramsgate only released him because of fitness issues and least he did'nt leave out of disgust cookie.

I was talking about on the forum Tony,as that is what I thought others were doing.I didn't think Dan was getting any stick on here.

I didn't know about the time you were talking about(so no selective memory there,as you put it)& I cant see where he had played altogether badly to get comments of that kind, but that was off the forum & whilst I'm sure it probably wasn't warranted I still stand by what I said that the vast majority,on the forum, were appreciative of him.

I am sure you will be factually correct BTW,and i expect most would agree with you that such comments are unecessary, excepting that this is semi-pro football, and is exactly that sort of comment goes with the territory of being paid to play.

Surely a player has to have both physical and mental toughness to overcome that.Player, parents and advocates should realise that.

Ok, they were a bit older, but Dean Standen and Jake Leberl took a bit of undesreved stick in their first seasons and came through.

Thats the mental side of the game-young players have to be equally mentally tough to take plaudits and abuse.

I don't condone it,but its fact, and if you are good enough, you will overcome it.Who is to say that the same thing will not happen at Ramsgate in a months time.

MM yes it does going with the territory but not from your own supporters. Especially after the games he played prior to that perticular night. As for being semi-pro and expecting it what a load of [****!!****], He wasn't getting paid he played for nothing and just because you get paid doen't give supporters the right to be abusive. If the taunting had been racist in any way you would have expected the purpetrators to be arrested I believe the abuse he took was as bad. As for the Ramsgate supports turning on him I don't think that will happen it seems to be a Margate supporters thing other fans appriciate their players past and present efforts at this level

I guess we could go on and on, and again, i agree it is unwarranted ,but a fact of life;and is it really much different to yourself in the corporate world, where maybe even today, and probably in the past, you perhaps have had to be mentally tough and alert to protect yourself from the knives that come flying towards one back, from competitor and in many cases one's own staff or peer group within.

You have obviously survived and thrived, but maybe some clever business people have thrown in the towell, or gone back to being an employee as opposed to having their own business as they 'did not need the hassle'

Sadly, i guess the same occurs with many school teachers today, where again, despite their teaching ability, they may not be mentally strong enough to survive in the classroom jungle.

Mental toughness is needed in all walks of life.

There again, maybe i have been watching too much of the Apprentice and the like.

Meanwhile-back at the football-yes it is a really crxp FA Cup draw.

Up the 'Gate

Back again to youngsters and the club.

What is a "football Club" to you?. To me a Football Club is a group of teams. Starting at Kiddies academy level, through from under 7's teams to the adult team. In this case i hope i do my bit as a supporter and try and support the teams at all levels as often as possible and when work and family allow. To me every level from the Kiddies academy (if we have one?)through should be nurtured by the club as along the way the club will benefit from the end product. As much as i hate to admit it, the other lot on the south side are the only ones to have benefited from our old system (they haven't done bad for a bunch of local talent). Thanks to the old managerial team disbanding our set up.

I know the Club have been going through a rough time with the development project over the last few years. I know you cannot fill a team with solely home grown talent at the higher level, but with funds eventually coming into the club from the 5-asides and the nearing of the rest i hope in the future the Club will put its all behind the youth development and not become or continue to be just another buy, buy, buy Club.

The best way we can support our youngsters as supporters is to watch them, cheer them, make them feel Welcome at our Club.

PS, I think Mark Weatherly, Steve Moore, Tom Hickman, Luigi and all the other Managers are doing a Stirling job sometimes under difficult conditions and so should be commended for there work.
