First half was topsy-turvy, went behind before we'd had a meaningful touch of the ball, poor defending of a ball into the box. Minutes later their keeper was sent off for handling outside the area - he dived at the feet of BWG, no question about the red, although Welwyn felt BWG might have been offside. The lino, who was simply woeful all afternoon, was miles behind the play and couldn't give it either way. Leon grabbed the equaliser then BWG gave us the lead, before a dodgy pen allowed Welwyn to equallise... the ref desperately wanted his fee for a tuesday replay imo. Dorms made it 3-2 on the stroke of ht

Second half all us really, Bradders grabbed his 2nd on the hour mark, and Welwyn caved in after that. The fifth was an og, then Flackie came on to score a hat-trick in 5 minutes...

I thought our second half performance was very strong indeed. You can say what you like about the opposition etc but to score eight goals away from home is a fantastic achievement.

With Boot likely to be available in a couple of weeks time we have a high quality group of forwards to choose from. Although it was difficult to judge for sure I did feel that there were better individual performances in midfield too. Maybe still a bit of tweaking to get the balance right but our second half performance should give the lads plenty of confidence for the upcoming games. A handy couple of grand in the bin too.

Well done lads.

Certainly scoring 8 goals is an achievement in anyones book but why the slow start...We always pick up one habit a season and this one looks as if it's going to be starting slow. The first half performance was one of dig in and battle it out, with Welling trying to unsettle us, even with 10 men on the pitch. The second half was better but I think it's as much down to Welling throwing in the towel after going 4 - 2 down as to our superior football...Then again, we could've settled for that and cruised and didn't...so applause for the team for pushing on to score four more goals.

Anyone know, who holds the record for the fastest hat trick?

Did anyone get the "oh know here we go" feeling when WGC went 1-0 up in 30 odd seconds ! - JL said earlier up the thread it dont matter who you are playing to get 8 goals is a big boost. I thought we looked a little jittery in the first period, but you could sense all through man for man that fitness levels and sharpness to the ball would resolve the issue. A comprehensive display in the second period which almost so us snatch the double figure scoreline. Well done lads, but dont give us permatations so early on ! smile

A word for WGC. Very friendly club, nice clubhouse and a scenic style pitch. And to their credit they did not resort to clobbering tactics. Wishing them well.

Just checked my Hotmail account for 1st time for a while, and found this reply to a post I put on WGC's message board. Apologies for not posting it sooner:-

Hi and thanks for the congrats. Our season, well it's a kind of stuttering start

to be honest. Bradley Woods-Garness played for us the season before last and

finished as joint top-scorer. He is a live-wire alright, but sooo right footed!

Still if he bags a hat-trick or two no one can complain!

As a small club, we are always losing players to higher rated clubs. Last

weekend, two of our younger stars turned out to play against each other in

League two for the Barnet V Bradford City match. Joe Devera for the Bees and

Luke Medley (17 at the time and was the lad we played who we shoudln't have that

got us kicked out of the FA Vase) for the Bantams (Joined Spurs on a years

contract shortly after), add to that Bradley, James Edgerley at Hayes, two lads

at Enfield and so on it is a suprise we did as well as we did last season. Brad

scored for us at Histon in the FA Cup two seasons ago. We were 1-0 up after 43

mins and it stayed that way until the 60th min ute when Histon won a penalty and

scored then again 5 mins or so later. To be honest we shoudl have wrapped the

game up with three great chances before Brad scored. At 2-1 down it was all us

we hit the bar, post twice and forced Lance Key into some great saves. We should

have forced a replay but had to make do with a co!

urageous performance at a club that led the Southern league at the time.

We are not as strong now I don't think but can play a bit and are not a typical

hoof it forward step 5 side, just ask Bradley he is still well liked here and

was an icon with the younger supporters to whom he always had time for.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there and who knows the towns=folk of Welwyn

Garden City may decide to throw off their duvets and support us for a change!

But I doubt it!!

Regards Dave
