Rhodes Promoted To Secretary Of Kentish Town!

Recommended Posts

Taken from the latest SSML Newsletter No 5;

Kentish Town continue to upgrade their new home at Barnet Copthall Stadium, thanks to the

generosity of Barclays Premier League Arsenal. The Gunners had earlier donated a set of

goalposts for use at the Stadium, and last week the club’s charitable trust handed over a cheque

for £1,500 to pay for portable dug outs. Kentish Town secretary Cliff Rhodes was delighted.

He said “ The big clubs often get criticised for not helping their poor neighbours, but Arsenal

have been more than generous and we are hoping to work closely with them on community

projects”

Explain please.

I'm waiting for Sky Broadband to go on line at home in the next few days, then I'll be able to catch up on posts I've missed over the last few weeks and get my average back up to around the 950 mark

Yes sorry, it's probably simply an oversight and they haven't amended their records or else a slip of the keyboard, I can't be certain, I must admit it's unlike the SSML hierarchy to miss a trick though

Yes I will, these mistakes happen from time to time, it's flattering though to still be thought of the Club Secretary

So you've seen the Islington Gazette then, you kept that one quiet up until now. The words 'rash' and 'all over' spring readily to mind

Out of interest did Arsenal ever give Potters Bar Town any assistance whilst you were there, I know it's a red and white hotbed and there are a number of 'well connected' people in the area

The words 'Last saturday Kentish Town lost 2-0 to Hoddesdon Town in the FA Vase' was a great way to end the article! As for the rash bit... same 1/3 of a page you get for your big stories.

Yes, there is still plenty of two-way communication and co-operation between the two clubs and Arsenal Ladies still play their home reserve matches there and some first team matches. That's just one of the reasons why Kentish Town couldn't enter the FA Vase during their groundshare but I'm sure you already knew that, along with the other valid reasons.

Actually that reminds me. I was reliably informed yesterday that we had already entered the FA Vase for the 2005/2006 season long before you, uncharacteristically, took pity on us and subsequently penned your groundshare agreement. We still had a number of other irons in the fire at the time, Baldock Town style, and fully expected something else to materialise however unfortunately that wasn't the case so were forced to ply our trade at Parkfield. That was why you later heard second hand that we were entered in the Vase for that season, rather then immediately withdraw our application I think we probably hoped that you would allow us to enter, particularly as we could have been drawn away in the first qualifying round and lost, and it shows first hand the sort of person you are that you didn't when your Chairman was more than happy.
