Get together

Recommended Posts

A fair number of people have shown an interest in carrying on the pledge idea, for next season. However I think it may have to take a different form.

It has been suggested that a player may be nominated and wages etc are payed, this of course would be a different proposition than we have at present,

I think the only way we can achieve this is getting together and having a general discussion.

If all like minded people would like to give it a go and are in general agreement, we can arrange a meeting, come up with a plan before we approach Brian.

I am happy to organise.

I think the best way would be if anyone wishes to be involved to ring me on 01634 201026, we can then get a list of e- mails, or phone numbers arrange a date and see what we can achieve.

Look forward to the phone ringing, frequently.

Agreed, same here. I think we have such a strong team at the moment and it would be a real shame to see the like of Benno, Tosstao, Duku, Wilkerson and others have to go elsewhere. Im in on whatever we can do to keep them here.

Il ring you some time this week.

Jessica

Out of interest do you have any idea how many individuals roughly to date have contributed to the "Player Pledge" scheme?

Its just an idea - but the Supporters Association could always look at setting-up a direct debit scheme, whereby supporters authorise the Club to take say £10 a month from their account. (No more than a cost of a pint each week!)

Over the course of a year, 50 members would raise £6000, 100 members £12,000 and so on. It would be an easy way to collect the money and pay for a players wages in the process.

Without the "Player Pledge" scheme this season, we may well have not aquired the talents of Adrian Pennock and then where would we be?

So if we do stay-up and I'm not counting my chickens but certainly optimistic, I think everyone involved deserves a hearty congratulations - especially you for orgainsing everything and taking a fair amount of grief in the process.

Thanks

Jim

Exactly Jim, that is what I had in mind, as you say it has to be DD or something similar, once we have agreed with the Club what we are going to do, it has to carry on for the whole season, regardless of results etc,we cannot just decide half way through that we are going to stop, if we say we are going to pay for a player we can hardly decide in January that we are going to stop paying him.

As I said in my first post, this has to be something decided by all those who want to get involved. we have the pledge account all ready up and running, so it would not take that much arranging, as I have said I am happy to arrange/organise.

Thanks for your support Jim, yes I did take some grief, but the support from the people who really matter, and that fact that loads of people came over to say they supported the scheme even if our "friend" did not see the sense in it, makes it all worth while.

After all our only aim was to hopefully ensure Conference Football at Stonebridge Road, and Ade Pennock apart from being such a nice chap, has made a great deal of difference to the team.

All those who pledged and those who are still doing so can say that without there help, we perhaps would not have had his services and held on to all the others.

It's a good idea what you have suggested and as I have only been a Fleet supporter for 1 season and only missed 1 midweek game then I would be glad to do any thing to keep the club in the conference. If the worst comes to the and we do get relegated (heaven forbid) then the money would useful to attract top quality players and win us promotion again.

I have 1 question though,is there any other team whether it be in the conference or lower or even higher do what this club is doing? If so it might be an idea to see how they do player pledges through DD!

Since watching the team this season there should be no way this team should get relegated.Their to good a team for that. Ok they went through a bad patch and over that so now every one no matter how old should get behind them for the final push.

Keep the good work going Jessica and everyone behind the scenes and the supporters assoc.

York City have a supporters trust - who are it looks like are going to own the club. You could certainly make payments to the trust by DD. I think a supporters trust may be more complicated than we need....unless Jessica is looking to take over the Fleet!!

I picked up a package from Supporter's Direct today and read a chunk of it on the train home.

It looks a very good idea, but possibly not for the reasons that we thought. I will try to digest it all and let you have a summary at the meeting.

PS The draft contstitution has over 120 clauses. Phew <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
