After a number of years and many hurdles, work on Margate FC’s 5-a-side Centre got underway at Hartsdown Park today. Members of the press joined Margate Directors and leader of Thanet District Council Mr Sandy Ezekiel to break ground on the development.

Well there has been enough planning and forecasting done by the directors, investors and council so I'm inclined to go with them. Personally, I reckon not only is there a ready market but that it will create a new market in community based sport / liesure. And being right next to the Hartsdown Sports Centre will be a bonus.

Sorry Ian. Many local Sunday football clubs have to resort to training in school gym's. Floodlit pitches will be a massive bonus for those clubs not to mention youth football clubs like Thanet Colts. Jackey bakers is booked up most week nights. I think this will work very well if the football club run it properly! I played in the Wednesday league last winter and the facilities at JB's are awful. Having played at pfizers on their artificial pitch and being told that these will be similar, there really is no comparison.

Lets not react to the taunts of our "friends" from Ramsgate most important news for years which I am extremely happy about lets see how it works and hope that this is the start of a new beginning. Whatever else they may say from across the island the fan base is here for Margate and as we know most home games we have a greater attendance that most Blue Square North and south and a couple in the Conference too, so nothing negative from me any more onwards and upwards and I really hope that when my current Channel Islands residency expires in the next 12 months I can return to blue skies above Hartsdown Park!!!
