When will referees understand how important some of these games are to lower league clubs. With 500 pounds on the line it could be the difference between a club surviving and folding. We made the 2 hour trip to Rye United on Saturday with high expectations for the first couple of rounds.

We started off very well and hit the post in the first 20 minutes with Rye barely getting accross half way. Then as our center half was running back towards goal and had his ankle clipped and he went over which left the forward through on goal 1-0. We then went down to 10 men after 40 minutes. Card count Frimley 2 yellows 1 red, Rye 0.

Second half we went 3-0 down early on through a couple of errors but still did not count ourselves out. We then pulled one back and as our left back called their forward a [****!!****] in a verbal exchange which he was called a prick the linesman flagged and we were down to 9. Still putting the pressure on them the ref said there was 3 minutes left right before we scored a second. As soon as it went in there was no time on the clock. Final count Frimley 2 reds and 3 yellow, Rye i yellow in the 88th minute.

Still Fuming and awaiting my FA charge

Aggreed SL referees dont understand what we have to do within the clubs these days, too many of them want to be the focal point of a game one of my players got booked on Saturday at Ash for making a very good last gasp tackle, which the linesman gave but theb referee when booking him said and i quote ' i thought it was a great tackle but i have to book you because the linesman said so', i have never heard so much crap in my life they are just crap these days

I thought it was a good tackle aswell. Totally got the whole ball and none of the player. I'm just not sure what the referee and lino see these days. Cant remember the last time we had a good ref that you could say had a decent game!!

Yeah the football is not great at this level Krooner but we still expect some consitency from officials. The Ref and Linesman will get paid no matter what and can walk away straight after and not give another thought to the game. We on the other hand have to stand up and face the criticism that we will get from the board. You mentioned that the football at this level is poor but I will say we do not pay money for a c**p player so why pay money for a c**p official.

It may have been mentioned 20 or 30 times since training Thursday. I heard it was a horror of a decision. Surely after giving the free kick the ref should have shown him the red card for being last man too???

I think this thread's a little harsh to be honest

In my opinion the refs have a hard enough job as it is what with trying to control everything that goes on in a game. They are bound to upset some people as the decisions they make won't suit all. Refs have their opinions as well as us managers, chairman, secretaries, players, fans etc.... it's just that their opinions/decisions are more in the spotlight as they can determine the outcome of a game.

Refs and linesmen might not be perfect but who can say that they themselves are? Yes they might make mistakes but im sure they dont mean to and when you think how many mistakes players make in games it's minimal in comparison to what refs do.

If there was as much effort put in to playing football as there was to arguing with officials then some teams would be world beaters. S h i t happens sometimes and it's how you deal with it from there that makes the difference. If you're still arguing a decision 10 mins after it's happened then that's going to be detrimental to your team, very pointless.

I know more than most it's a passionate game and a lot of people put huge effort in to it, but to get so annoyed/frustrated/angry in to something you cant control (ie refs decisions) it just doesnt make sense. Anyway, just my opinion like....

El Gaffer I disagree as I think that the refs can be very biased. Why do managers tell players to not get on refs backs? Its because the Ref will turn agaist your team and make 50/50 decisions into 70/30 against you. The ref on saturday turned a game where we should of won 500 pounds to a game we now owe 300. Excessive bookings which were not justified. The only true booking was the card for the second booking which I will not argue. Also what if we are still arguing a decision that has totally ruined a game 10 minutes after it happened. It is called passion for the game which some of the officials could learn to have, instead of pulling up, reffing 5 games a week and be happy with the cash in hand they collect.

I'm an honest bloke and hopefully some of you on here can vouch for that.

When at times i give my opinion on a result or a brief match report i'm always very honest regardless of a win or a loss.

And with that i can agree that refs will inevitably make mistakes from time to time and i think most of us can forgive a ref when they do make errors. But when they make huge blunders that not only make you frustrated at the time but also cost you a win or a place in the next round, its very hard to just shrug it off and accept that the man in the middle just made a mistake.

Footballers like you say are passionate and want to win so badly.

Most of us players at this level are paid (even if it is a small amount) and we are expected to perform and if we dont we get dropped. We pay refs cos they're qualified and we rely on them to get the important decisions right and i'm sorry to say that most times they get it wrong.

On the other hand i do have a great deal of respect for them before kick off as without them we couldnt possibly play. I dont always like them too much afterwards though.........
