Used by big business as an excuse to not give you information they hold about yourself so you only find out by chance that it is wrong and difficult to correct.

Dan has not disclosed any personal information. That he might know some is true, but it is in the disclosure that the DPA provides empowerment. Information is classified when it is under the auspices of the Official Secrets Act.

He has as good as told everyone he has seen his ip address which is in my opinion a misuse of his moderators powers. do you not think that is wrong. As an administrator of my own web sites and employing over 70 others to administer my sites I would sack anyone giving out information including user private names linking them to their IP address.

I work with sensitive data. I have seen it. I am not telling you what it is. Guilty I am, my Employer should sack me immediately. This reflects, however, that I am very important in the grand scheme of life too, and wield considerable power and clout.

Of course moderators see IP addresses. That enables them to sniff out trolls, impersonators, and multiple personalities, also to be able to ban people who overstep the line. Everyone knows that.

What he has NOT done is say that Mr Hugo Ego of Acacia Villas, Margate, known to this forum as Coastline Plonker has an IP address of 69 69 00 00. It seems to me that you are taking a bit of gentle joshing and humour and trying to make a big-deal argument out of it.
