Well as bizarre games go in Towns short history this has got to be up there with the Stansted home game where we lost 3-0 with all 3 stansted goals from the penalty spot, the 5-5 away to Brentwood & even the 4-4 home game against Barkingside.

 

The officials were not just awful they were shocking, the ref was clueless and I do mean clueless, our defence was not much better, talk about all over the place, in the second half Bury got behind us so often they must wonder how they didnt win by a hatful, they hit the woodwork four (yes 4) times in the second half alone, our equaliser came after some nifty work by Ricci Crace that shall we say would not look out of place in a Harlem Globetrotters game!!

 

All this coupled with a barnstorming game by Andy Jones.....who was promptly substituted and a hard working Hammatt, a bullet header by Campbell and a point we really didnt deserve, but hey ho, we certainly lived a charmed life today but that wont continue and a lot of sorting out is needed.....FAST!

I don't know which was worse - the Officals OR our defence.

Probably BOTH to be honest.

 

Bury will feel hard done by, but to be honest their 4, 5, 6 and 9 should not have lasted more than the first half due to their constant fouls and kicking the ball away etc etc. Another Ref and another day and Bury could have been down to 9 men in the first 15 mins.

That said and all the Town excuses you can think of, we were VERY POOR today.

 

If Jim thinks we can "do something" in this League he had better start looking for a goal scorer ( why did we sign Foster ? )-( and the Sudbury score today was ?!? ) plus a centre half or two.

Next 2 league games Maldon and Edgware !! Can't wait.

Also heard that Robbie Carroll is at Hertford on loan?????

 

The lad should be involved in every Town game, we should be starting to build a defence around him not farming him out!

 

Also when are we going to give Andy Edmunds 90 mins? along with Robbie Carroll they are the brightest talents at the club.

Bury may feel hard done by but there was a blatent pen to Enfield Town in the first half which the ref shut his eyes to. If that had been given who knows what would have happened.

 

Criticism of the defence is a bit off considering that is the first time they have played together this season.

So Steph, what would you rather do.....praise that defensive performance ?

It was VERY poor, no matter who played with who, or not previously.

This squad of 26 is supposed to be "interchangable" HA.

Disagree, as individually they were awful let alone together!

Dave Allen probaly had his worst game ever in a Town shirt, Jamie Nay substituted after about 3 mins of the second half without looking injured, what was that all about?
Richard Georgiou got so far forward he was leaving acres behind him for Bury to run into and Steve Magona was well, his usual "ave it" every time he got the ball with the usual aimless 60 yard whacks upfield.
Adam Gant still does not look 100% fit.

in my oppinion a good result for you guys as well as for brentwood, who are on a very good run as late.

To be honest,I'm not sure how some players remain longterm members of the squad,when we have released many players of equal ability (such as Baldwin/Brotherton..etc).

 

Maybe it is time to introduce more young players like Edmunds and carroll into the first team squad,and that may mean letting a few fringe journeymen go.

The officials were our 12th, 13th and 14th men today and I normally think that against us so we must have been tad lucky.

 

I'd have started Andrea Fraquelli and Andy Edmunds after the midweek performance of the reserves. Not sure the number 3 shirt suited Richard Georgiou.

 

Paul Campbell looked good in the 7 shirt and it was interesting that both town goals came from the number 7 shirt current and previous wearer, so some healthy competition for places.

 

A couple more reserve games for Michael Lyons and I'd give him a first team place in the midfield. The new keeper needs a place on the bench as well.

 

So I can see 4 players who should be starting or on the bench in the coming weeks but at whose expense we shall see?

 

Why were we passing back Bryan and playing David Allen into trouble in the first place? I thought you two had settled your differences?

 

Simple first goal to Bury down right wing cross and in the net in 1 on 1. 27 minutes and Bury had not been in the game to that point. We went 2 down and it was like the boys woke up from their slumbers - Ear were losing? No? you sure? yep! OK lets play!

Great but it isn't going to happen when we play them for sure. We threw away a 0 - 2 lead at their place with seconds to play so Town players better play to the final whistle or I'll name and shame on here next week!

Probably not, therefore you have no idea what a poor standard of play we witnessed.

 

Some Town players really need to look at this performance and ask themselves if they are good enough.

Town supporters on here have already named a few.

Hmm, yet more home points dropped, another poor performance by the sound of it, and do I detect a hint of more bizarre team selections and substitutions?

 

I am now thinking back to the criticisms of the pre-season friendlies which were not used to sort out the first choice team. These performances also no doubt are reflected in the attendances.

 

This does indeed need to be sorted out, sooner rather than later.
