todays line up

Recommended Posts

A result that had to be expected to be honest. A combination of injuries and a trip to a strong team like Weymouth was hardly likely to produce much other than a defeat. Another tough match against Kiddie next week, after which we could find ourselves near the relegation zone. Not a disaster as yet, but not the start of the season many people hoped for and expected after last year's excellent league finish.

Listening to Lord Chas, it all sounded a bit predictable again. Whilst it didn't sound as if we played too badly, it came over as if we were never likely to win, at best a late draw.

It will be interesting to read the coments from those who went. It's 3.5 - 4 hours back from Weymuff, depending on traffic, so hopefully we should glean a little more insight around 9pm.

What have we learned from this match so far?

1. We are the joint second lowest scoring team in the league (by 1 goal - 6 from 8)

2. Our defensive record is holding up (8 from 8 is acceptable).

3 Making 4 outfield changes doesn't appear to have changed our fortunes.

4. 3 consecutive goalless games would hint at problems putting the ball in the net, as well as chance creation.

5. If we went 3-5-2 again, with Bostwick as holding midfieder (as Charles said he was), it might suggest at this not being our most effective formation at present.

As was said, no need to panic yet, it is still far too early to call this a crisis, but I worry that with a quarter of the season soon approaching, we have not looked effective up front so far all season, and those injured players shortly to return may not entirely be the answer, since they largely occupy defensive or midfield places.

I am not criticising the performance today, nor any particular players; didn't see it, only heard it, but improved results do not appear to be happening yet.

As Bernard said, it will be a tough game against Kiddies next week.

Ps, it was good to read on the Weymuff forum that Both Nade and Chukki were warmly and sportingly applauded by the home fans.

Clearly they were (and presumably still are) held in high esteem) which, if nothing else proves they do have enough talent for LD and AK to work on.

I wouldn't say this result was expected. Weymouth a strong side? Maybe last season like we were but before todays game they only had 6 points from 7 games.

Today wasn't really much of an improvement on Histon.

Long ball most of the time, we played about 5-10 minutes of decent stuff just after the interval but that was about it.

We never really looked like scoring. McPhee did OK, and Nade put the most work rate in I've ever seen him, but nowhere near the amount Charlie Mac did or Luke Moore has.

Their first goal was hideous defending from a corner, and their secong literally went underneath and through our wall from the free kick. Both preventable goal.

In all honesty from recent form I think we're really going to be struggling this year - and it kills me to say that.

I just hope Daish sticks to his word and reshuffles the squad. IMHO there's players there that don't put the work rate in, the dont look like they want to win, and they're holding the players back who do want to win.
