Or a simpler solution would be if you don't want to sit don't go into an area with seats.
Not rocket science is it?

Do you not remember how grumpy all the old fogies down the side stand were when the singers moved there last time? For about the last 5 years or so, the way it's worked is that the people who wanna enjoy themselves and make a bit of noise go behind the goal, the people who want some quiet stand down the side. If this no standing rule continues behind the goal that's all gonna change. And people ain't gonna like it.

More importantly though, people sitting down = less atmosphere. Can't remember how many times throughout the years games have been won or lost on how much encouragement the crowd have given the players. If the atmosphere at games continues to be killed by the club, performances will suffer, and more and more people will get bored with games.

I must have misread this original post........A young person had his toes 20mm on the yellow line!
The Stewards were quite right, 20 mm of toes could so easily cause somebody to trip, or block a Fire Escape, or cause an idiot(probably a Steward) to invade the pitch, as speedo took the time to give(far less time, I might add that it took me to decipher it!) as an excuse reason.
It hardly seems as if somebody was blatantly flouting the rules, it does seem as if a Steward completely over-reacted!

There haven't been seats behind the goal for 5 years so it was perfectly ok to stand there, now there are seats and it isn't.The clue is the seats.

There is nothing to say that you can't bang a drum and sing and create an atmosphere from the side of the pitch, and yes you are probably right that some of the people who currently stand there won't like it but it is a big ground and unfortunately it is three quarters empty so there is plenty of space for people to move away from the singing if they want to.

Who knows some of them might even enjoy the atmosphere. grin

I love this thread...

I don't like the yellow lines, lest get rid of them. I'm also not happy about segregation or being told to sit down. I also don't like the stewards.

But they're all due to health and safety, the stewards are just doing their jobs.

Also best post of the thread comes from Lord Hirsty, Sponsered by Strongbow; when it comes to our stewards "elf" and safety is the correct phrase to use.

As my previous post............None of this was in the original post. The original post was about a 'youngster' having his/her feet on a yellow line, and a Steward being heavy handed and upsetting the said youngster, and speedo's escalation of it turning into a pitch invasion!
Bur why let the 'truth' of the matter get in the way of a good rant?
Bring it on! boxing laugh

Depends how you define 'enjoyment' and 'quiet'. The only difference in noise as I see it is a drum and some anti-Canvey songs or little ditties with lots of swearing in.

That aside, the noise level is much the same I'd imagine.

u may have think i've escalated it american but u still don't get it, 20mm or a foot on the line's can cause the club to loose the saft certifecart than how will u have ago at the youngster, same how i don't think so u'll just have ago at us again saying we won't doing our job in the first place

What I understand, speedo,(having been a Safety Officer, for a large firm in Northfleet, for several years),is common sense. Encroachment into the hatched area is an offence, picking on a person for touching a line is nit picking. I have never heard of any club being closed for such(in your mind)an offence!

Being a Steward is not a highly paid job, and tends to attract poorly educated 'Jobsworths', or people who genuinely want to do a service for their club. I think it is obvious by your posts, which category applies to you!

Ah, the good old precautionary principle.

Although it's not particularly 'precautionary' when there's no away end burger bar and visiting fans can freely enter the home end to get refreshments anyway. Why then was the gate and 'exclusion zone' at the Stonebridge Road end of the away end in place for the Histon game, when those intent on causing trouble could easily find a way anyway (re. last season, when Crawley fans were 'segregated' but had no burger bar, and a drunken away supporter upturned the condiments table at the home end)?

Again (as I requested in a previous thread), an explanation of segregation arrangements when there's no burger bar at the away end would be most appreciated.

jc - I understand that the situation you highlight is officially termed "semi-segregated"! A conflict of terms as I see it but one that results in a way supporters being able to visit "our" part of the ground to use the "facilities" but us not alowed to visit "their" part of the ground.

This situation is reserved for games seen as lowish risk in terms of trouble potential with low away support.

Anything else is fully segregated with the rare and welcome exception of non-segregated games (where in my experience there is a higher risk of agrro than at some semi-segregated games as the really low away support games usually have a higher % of nutters.)

On Saturday though it was at least very good to see the exclusion zone being moved along to the Swanscombe End goal. A big improvement!!
