In general because of diet & fitness regimes but, regarding Fleet in particular, surely you can't be saying that the squad of today is not fitter than the part time squad of a couple of years ago ?

We lost a number of games under part time in the last 15 minutes purely down to fitness. No offence to the players involved, it's just a fact.

However, re robustness, could this be a result of fitter players ( in general terms ) ? Maybe the roast dinner & 12 pints brigade of the 60's & 70's may not have been so fit & quick but, as you say, players seem to incur more injuries these days than in the past? so maybe fitter may not lead to "robustness" ? More roast dinners ? or Pasta ? Just a thought....

My arguement exactly, Hirsty. They may be fitter and faster, but stronger and more robust? Probably not.

So just to clarify matters:

You didn't see the match

You don't know how well Nade played

You don't know what his injury was

You don't know how it happened

You don't know how serious his injury is

You don't know how long he will be out for

But you do know that any number of players from the past would have dusted themselves off and carried on to score a last minute winner before hobbling straight past the treatment room to the bar for a pint and a fag with the fans.

Do you feel you are being entirely fair to the lad?

the proof of the pudding will be in the gate for the kiddies game. It ought to be 1400+ - but I reckon we'll do well to get 900.

At the end of the day, what you and I think or say on here is immaterial, if the supporters don't like what they are watching, they will (and appear to be already) stay away.

Even LD is disappointed with what is happening on the pitch.

Last year our gates were dreadful - especially considering for much of the term we were a top 6 side with an outstanding goalscorer.

This year looks as if it is shaping up to be a long slog - as we have no obvious 15 goal striker, and a squad that doesn't appear rugged or robust enough for this level.

The league season isn't a quick sprint like the Derby, more like the Grand National, where strong stayers inviariably come out as winner.

We need a mix of lean, quick athletes, and rugged stayers.

My arguement is we haven't got the mix right yet.

Ah-ha the Chatham Gary safety net, "attendances are down so I must be right..."

Are everybodies attendances down or is that a wild stab in the dark?

Scroll down to the bottom.

Even with the promoted lot the picture isn't looking rosie, take them out and it looks even worse. You may note Northwich Victoria's rise of 40% but take into account that they've had one local derby v Droylsden that has never happened at this level, one game v York who will always travel well for anything upto 100 miles up the road and also Torquay, they might be top of the table or something.

Listen to what the average fan says.
Hard to believe, but perhaps, just perhaps, we are not quite as good as the hype.

That would be the hype that had most (if not ALL!!) sports columns predicting 'Fleet to finish in the bottom third of the league!

Do you mean Chas and co. are not capable of giving us a good enough 'view' of the game to enable insightful comment.

Chas and co do a very good job that provides an important service for those not fortunate as myself to be able to go to the game, although to be fair I haven't listened for two and a half years.

However any oppinions expressed by Chas on there can not be agreed with by anyone who didn't see them.

If this were true wouldn't it undermine the whole reason for radio commentary. If you cant form an opinion by listening to a commentary then what is the point.

I would agree that it is difficult to disagree with any opinions offered by the commentators unless you were there.

But on the other hand, how many times have you heard a TV commentator bemoan a 'stonewall' penalty shout being turned down but thought yourself that it was never a pen in a million years? Or how many times have you come on this forum after a match and half the posts praise a certain player, while the other half think he was bobbins? Who are you to believe if you missed the game?
