It's reassuring to know the club have continued the trend of only signing rugged, robust players who fight through the pain barrier in the cause!!

In the past we had players like Burrett, Cotter, Portway, Skinner, Jackson who invariably suffered a series of gruesome assaults, picked themselves up, and limped on, frequently ending up man of the match.

No calf strains, hamstrings, knee twinges or metatarsals then.

Just honest, tough semi pros, dedicated to the club they loved.

Oh come on DA11, he's having a go at the players for being injured and not playing through the pain barrier, even for Gary that has reached a new low.

Most humbly sorry, Lord Majesty Harry, speaker of all things correct, overseer of the forum, and moderator of all things you think boring.

If I think the players of today do not show the same grit and committment as those of yesteryear, I shall say so. This forum was supposed to be the medium with which supporters voiced opinions.
It is my OPINION, if you don't like it, put up a reasoned arguement, or ignore it!

I have checked back on old posts and can find no other references to players of yesteryear being made of sterner stuff than those of today.

Ergo, this appears to be this topic's debut, therefore hasn't be "restated ad nauseum".

This malaise is not solely a Fleet problem, but appears to be widespread across all of football, from BSP to the Premiership.

Therefore, is is not worthy of debate?

Didn't see the game, so haven't commented on whether they played well.

My only other posting regarding Nade was a positive one.

My debate is about the fitness, durability and "robustness", compared to players of the past.

This not only applies to Fleet, but can be applied to virtually every professional club in England.

If people find this boring then this forum is becoming one of the most tedious around, frequented with posters "close to the club", sycophants, and those plain scared of a healthy debate.

Lance is covering the other end of the pitch so we don't need to worry about that do we?

I think we do need another Charlie in. Someone's said earlier, we have got forwards, not strikers. We don't have a player to make something out of nothing when outnumbered in the area. Our supporting play looks excellent- if only we had someone to put away all the chances we make!

Surely players are fitter now than a few years ago ?

In general because of diet & fitness regimes but, regarding Fleet in particular, surely you can't be saying that the squad of today is not fitter than the part time squad of a couple of years ago ?

We lost a number of games under part time in the last 15 minutes purely down to fitness. No offence to the players involved, it's just a fact.

However, re robustness, could this be a result of fitter players ( in general terms ) ? Maybe the roast dinner & 12 pints brigade of the 60's & 70's may not have been so fit & quick but, as you say, players seem to incur more injuries these days than in the past? so maybe fitter may not lead to "robustness" ? More roast dinners ? or Pasta ? Just a thought....

...anyway, nice to see that you are still trying to make friends among your fellow supporters by referring to them as " close to the club", sycophants, and those plain scared of a healthy debate".

However....moving on......I have just walked past the Prince of Orange and noticed the chalk board advertising the fact that they are showing the "England v Israil"
game tomorrow. Hope this is not a Jewish takover of Eurostar ?

Have a good weekend all......

Cheers,

beer
