I have no issue with chelmo at all really but must say that the recent revival of the 'ponytails' due to a farrago of limitless funds and much expectation at the expense of the also ran plebs in the prem leaves much to be desired....

my goodness...one of them asked me who the number 10 was and when I told him he said...

not yours...ours.... grin

Blimey what a lot of cockwaving , crowds win you zip , we would be conf national if it did , personally I enjoy a visit to NL , it may be ramshackle but it is a real football ground and has the best bar in Rymans with a real pub feel to it , Hornchurch , barstaff aside has no redeeming features , the large man has done a good job at Cressing Road but I cant see that he can really take them much farther , for some reason Braintree is just not a football town.

It must have been luck (again) then when we reached last season's play-off final.

I made no mention of luck , from what I'm told the play off game could have gone either way , sooner or later you must be looking for a response from the Braintree public , why plan for a 6K capacity ? imo you will not get that response.

Dill,

Don't you think any club in mid-Essex would pull decent crowds if they made the Connie National?

I never went to D&R or Grays, but I'd go & watch Braintree occasionaly (presuming they're there before us!). More "my back yard" than the other two; irrespective of the actual mileage.

And when's the Horse Racing starting at Great Leighs? It all has the makings of a good day out in the Braintree area. Connie National footie followed by an all-weather evening meeting.

Rik , the printer likes a wind up , but he must be disappointed by the lack of reaction from the Braintree public to his clubs success on the pitch look at D & R and Accrington both have made it into the league but have not seen any increase in crowds ,I read somewhere that the Accrington chair said they would have been better served staying in the Conf, if Ricay were chasing promotion to the Conf Nat I'm sure you would be expecting a noticable increase in support from the Ricay public , good call though on a day out in Braintree if they ever finish the GL project.

Dill - you miss the point of much of what is going on at Cressing Road. For us, it's all about the football. That said, we are delighted with the way our town has reacted to the team's progress. At the end of 2003-04 we had lost 18 home league matches and were getting gates just over 100. Our last game of 2006-07 attracted 1500+ We're now getting 5-600 each week which we're happy with and we know that further success will draw in more. All this in three years.

We plan our stadium development as much with the needs of our and visiting supporters in mind, as the Conference and Football League ground gradings. We now have a 4,000 capacity stadium (new 500 capacity terrace opening today). If I'm honest, we probably won't get 4,000 today (no, really!), but the increased capacity is another step towards our getting an 'A' grading. Longer term - if it happens - the new stadium in 2012 will set the Club up for decades to come.

If you believe central government planning figures, Braintree as a town will expand to 75,000 people over the next 10-15 years. We hope that many of them might support their local team - and we're trying to provide a stadium that is both safe and comfortable for them.

But back to our raison d'etre - the football. If we'd beaten Salisbury at Stevenage last May, the 'A' grading is something that would have been essential. Some clubs allow themselves to be surprised by the success they have on the pitch and their lack of planning off it prevents them from taking advantage.

We won't let that happen in Braintree.

Gazza you need to try & see past your hatred of all things claret ,

Lee Harding has done an immense job at Braintree FACT the Braintree public have not responded FACTthey had 580 for their BSC match today, no premiership games as competition , I dont presume anything , If LH is happy with that sort of turnout when only 2 steps below the Football League then so be it , personally I dont believe that the Braintree public care much for football.

Hatred? Isn't it so fine to see that when anybody's else tounge is in their cheek when commentating about Chelmsford City, it's "Hatred"...But when they commentate, it's concern, interest or sympathy...A Great White Shark has more commpassion for it's victims then they do...And come to think of it, there are dead things lying at the bottom of ponds that have more life in them than their collective support...

Dill, it is you, not I that has missunderstood...

As for LF's post...strange, isn't it that some of them feel the requirement to remind us as to where they are in the league at present...It's almost like a sibling trying to get approval...Touching...Personally, I couldn't give a [****!!****]!!!
