It's Southend but the orange glow is an atom bomb going off over Grays.

it is of course the palace pier in brighton taken from kemptown where my mother lives...it is indeed a fab foto and what you cannot see is that the camera was under 5 feet of water just seconds later as one of our dogs dragged nett into the incoming tide...its a miracle the fotos survived...

 

the saddest and most poignant thing for me is the skeleton of the west pier that can be seen through the pylons....I was brought up in palmeria square almost opposite the west pier and spent 17 summers enjoying its delights from childhood to teenage manhood...we hid behind the famous old vaudeville theatre when we bunked off school and I took my first girlfriend on my first date onto the west pier...

 

I won't bore you with the criminal behaviour of successive councils that allowed the destruction of the pier or the greed and avarice of well known public figures that were also cupable in its destruction...that is all a matter of public record....needless to say... the ruin of quite possibly the greatest ever piece of victorian architecture is a national scandal......

 

sadly too late now and only the fotos and the memories remain....

 

well done nett...great foto and just one of many actually that survived her swim....

I think you'll find that the atom bomb went off over Grays a couple of years ago.

No one noticed.
