With more luck and better finishing Margate should have won against a strong Deal Town side who had three first team players in their side.

As early as the 2nd minute Robbie Summers flashed a free kick across the face of the goal but neither Kenny Pratt or Darryn Vanhinsberg could quite get a final touch. Vanhinsberg then had a free kick on the left which he hit well but Gary Phipps in the Deal goal saved well. Deal then broke themselves and the ever dangerous Jamie Marriott unleashed a shot which Matt Lamprell flung himself to his left and tipped the ball over the bar. In the 14th minute the energetic Chris Lewis, who didn't stop running all night, had a shot which went over the bar.

Deal then had a corner in the 21st minute which was dealt with well by the Margate defence being played out by the impressive Zach Zacharia who hit a ball to Olti Kechi who threaded through to Lewis but shot right at Phipps. Deal then broke and a through ball was chased by Lee Grounds but Lamprell beat him to the ball, punching clear. Margate then applied more pressure and Jamie McAree pushed the ball to Pratt but his shot was hit straight at Phipps. Vanhinsberg, who always troubled the defence, then hit a shot on the left which Phipps tipped onto the bar and over for a corner.

Then in the 28th minute Margate took a deserved lead when Kechi put in Vanhinsberg on the left who cut in and fired a great shot past the helpless Phipps. They then went close a minute later when Dan Stokes came away with the ball, passed to Pratt who put in Summers but his shot went just wide of the right post. Then a corner by Marriott for Deal, flashed dangerously across the Margate goal but nobody could get the final touch. Vanhinsberg then took a free kick on the right and Zacharia rose to head but could not find the corner of the net.

In the 41st minute McAree hit a ball to Lewis but his shot was hit at Phipps. Then Lewis broke into the box a minute later but, once, again his shot was hit directly at Phipps. Deal then equalised against the run of play a minute before half time when a free kick by Marriott was parried away by Lamprell but the ball fell in front of Grounds who hit the ball into the net. Vanhinsberg then took another free kick on the stroke of half time but it was saved by Phipps.

At half time one of the linesman had to retire injured and Steve Moore, the Reserve Assistant manager, took over the running of the line. Lewis again broke through the defence two minutes into the half, and his shot was fumbled by Phipps but his defence managed to clear the lines. Lewis then put Summers through who pused it across the area to Vanshinsberg who fired wide. Marriott then broke for Deal but his shot hit the left post and fell safely out of play. A minute later Lewis finally got a deserved goal when he broke through the defence, was pushed wide by the advancing Phipps but still managed to slot the ball home froman acute angle. Stokes then had to be subbed when he went down in a tackle suffering an ankle injury.

In the 60th minute Marriott had a shot which flashed wide of the right post. Summers then had a great chance to increase the Margate lead when Lewis put him through but Phipps made a good save pushing his shot onto the post and out for a corner. In the 70th minute Deal won a penalty that looked harsh when a defender was adjudged to have fouled just inside the area. Harry Collins took it and hit it well low into right hand corner to make the score 2-2. Six minutes later a cross from Vanhinsberg found Pratt but his shot went wide of the left post. A minute later a mistake in the Margate defence let in Louis Waddon who fired past Lamprell to give Deal an undeserved lead. However a Deal player got injured in the process and had to be stretchered off and taken to hospital.

In the 82nd minute their was some great build up play between Pratt, Lewis and Summers but when the ball was pushed to Vanhinsberg he fired over the bar. Then Pratt ran into a through ball from the hard working Summers but Phipps came out and smothered the ball at Pratts feet. In the 88th minute Vanhinsberg cut into the area from the left and was brought down. Alan Heath, who usually takes the penalties, was watching from the sidelines, so Pratt stepped up but unfortunately hit the ball straight at Phipps who saved with his feet. Pratt then tried to make up for this miss when he met a great corner from Elliott Payne but his flying header went over the bar. Payne then got a dangerous cross in but the Deal defence managed to clear and win the game.

You know him then Danny?. Must say he looked good on the ball at times. I think Utterson may have been the player injured Tony, but not sure, numbers on their shirts not easy to see.

Must be a different Robbie. No way would be playing someone in the reserves who used to play with a middle aged pot-bellied worn out goal poacher of 20+ years ago wink
