Heybridge v Billericay latest

Well Heybridge defied their position in the League table and performed very well, two pacy new wingers showing elusive pace and guile. Was surprised to see them so strong up front. And if the keeper hadn't left the free kick alone I think Heybridge might have taken all three points. A refreshing game tonight.

The merest tinge of disappointment that we didn't beat a Heybridge side that could be described as tendonkeys and tenkorang... But to put it in perspective this is our best start to a season since 02/03 (when we got 13 points from 6 games)... Excellent goal from Abbo to put us ahead early doors, but Tenkorang set up an excellent goal for them then they went ahead just before half time when we missed a couple of tackles. Second half I thought we were much the better team, got on terms with an excellent free kick from BWG but couldn't press on... The injuries are really starting to bite now, Billy was on the bench (precautionary) and Wayne was ill so Jase was named on the bench.

Buckfield

McSweeney Heffer Blewitt Kerrigan

Abbott Hunter Dormer Hodges

Flack BWG

Subs

Wareham for Hodges

Burbridge for Abbott

SNU: Swaine, Broom, McMahon

Quite an enjoyable game to watch I thought. For the first 10-15min of the 2nd half we were superb. Won the free-kick and a great strike from BWG put us back on level terms. After that not a lot to write home about.

Abbo's opening goal was also a beaut. Timely as well as it followed a few mis-hit passes on his part and shut the few dissenters in the crowd up. He gained confidence after that and had a good game. Thought BWG was wasted out on the right after Burbs came on. But perhaps we need more time to adapt to him being there.

How was that not a penalty?

Good performace going forward tonight, but slightly sloppy defending. Was the only time that ive really been worried about conceding so far this year, and it was disappointing that our first 2 goals conceded from open play have cost us a potential win. Having said that, a draw from a trip to Heybridge is not at all a bad result, especially after being behind at half time.

Both goals were belters. Ref was useless, should have been a pen, but no point moaning about it, im sure well get away with a few in due course too. I think we were probably the better side for most of the game, especially in the second half, and will be slightly disappointed not to win it, but its a good start to the season: unbeaten, 3 tough away trips done, tightest defence, joint most potent attack, and 3rd in the table. Hard to put a negative spin on that. Also, great turn out from the visiting fans, atmosphere in the second half was tremendous, reminded me of the equivalent game last season.

Good luck saturday, see you all whenever i next get a saturday off frown

Not a bad old game tonight. The grass was okay as was the pitch as a whole. The posts seemed fine. The Heybridge crowd was great all ten of them. Tanoys were working fine and still in place after the game.

As usual we bought the Shoe Army atmosphere with us to liven up Heybridge.

Regardless of the little [****!!****] in the black kit, that was a penalty if ever i saw one, But if your 3ft nothing i suppose it would be hard to ref a game like tonights. where the hell do they get these blokes?

The Team one and all were great tonight & came out in the 2nd half putting the screws on Heybridge,

Also nice to see the applause both ways after the game from the crowd to the players and back.

We are still the only unbeaten team in the league after six games so lets keep it going lads.

Heybridge is always a difficult place for us. Doesn't matter how badly they are doing they do raise their game and make it hard for us...but saying that, after Abbo's superb goal, which drew praise from their keeper, we went to sleep (sorry, that was the way I saw it) and allowed a (up to their equaliser) average side to get back into it. Up to the goal, Heybridge looked like they had nothing in the "locker".

The game developed into a typical encounter between us and Heybridge...with them indulging themselves with lunging tackles, sly off the ball incidents and inept officials. I missed their equaliser as I couldn't see clearly from where I was standing but our second was out of the top drawer of free kicks. It was so well placed that I didn't even think the ball was in until it bounced from the back of net!!! BWG to take our free kicks from that distance in future, I think.

A 'Ricay supporter said to me after Heybridge's first goal "We don't do easy at Scraley Road"...No, we don't but once again, praise has to go to the players for pulling themselves back up to make good the half time scoreline and dominate most of the second half...The only disapointment was that we didn't get the winner but that's life... Can't always have what ya want and we're still unbeaten and 3rd in the league, so again, well done to everyone.

It's mentioned above that Broomy was named as a substitute last night, what's the news on George Lay?

He's seen at most games home and away, always at the pre-match and half time kick abouts and is in the first team photos in our programme.

Haven't seen his name in the reserve team - has he had to call it a day?

The thing i like about these lads is they never know what the meaning "give up" is - Straight back after halftime no messing and in general controlled the game creating a good deal of chances in the process.

Overall a very good point against a team who (i feel) will now start to find their new feet.

The pitch was really good - But yes, how on earth was the pen not given !

Well done lads! -

A good result for us last night.

I thought, as did the Heybridge people I spoke to, that we were the better team, and had we won there would have been no complaints from them.

Having said that, I was delighted with a point, Heybridge is always a tough game, its a local derby, and it was away from home, so to come away with a point was the requirement, and that's what we did.

The Heybridge game is always one of my favorites, nice people, (apart from a few muppets stood behind our dug-out) good hospitality, and just a few miles from home.

Good luck Heybridge for the rest of the season.

Next up...Harrow, and we owe them.

why do we always manage to get poor officials at heybridge, this year was no different. Having said that we defended the first goal poorly but scored 2 superb goals. the bright side is that we played some fantastic football during the game with superb passing moves moving us through from midfield to attack. on another night we would have won easily but a point is a good result from there and we are still unbeaten when our main rivals have already slipped up.

roll on Harrow.

To be fair to the ref (who was actually shorter than Lee H) he did not see the pen incident as a Heybridge defender ran across his line of sight at exactly the wrong moment. I was in a direct line behind the ref and also could not see exactly what had happened.

However the lino was closer and did nothing!!!
