Sid i am concerned about the point system on the Ryman League.

 

Whilst i am rightfully at the bottom of the league,i notice that there are 8 people on minus points,with another 8 that could easily drop into minus points with a bad prediction day.

 

My worry is that we could get easily get bored of this league with half the entrants being on zero points with no incentive to continue.

This is very true. However, as I have said before, there are 99 points available with a full programme of league games. I do not believe changing the poins system would help you unless we give 10 points for every incorrect prediction.

 

It is very common in Prediction Leagues for some people who don't do well at the beginning to drop out. This is sad as it is a long season

 

The points awarded are as follows:-

 

5 points = Correct score

1 point = Correct result

1 point = Correct home score

2 poins = Correct away score

 

So that makes 9 points if you are spot on.

 

And what is probably affecting your score ... MINUS TWO points for an incorrect prediction.

 

You say that on a bad prediction day more people could drop into the "minus zone" but I would say that on a good prediction day anyone could go from nowhere into first place.

 

The points structure means even if you are well off the lead you can make up lost ground very easily. With this possibility hopefully people should not lose interest.

 

We cannot obviously alter the scoring system now as that would be very unfair. All I can suggest is that you re-register and start again.

 

I would be interested to know how you would change the points structure.

I would do away with minus points and if you get it wrong you get no points.

do away with the minus, then 3 points for the correct score 1 point for the correct result.

Whatever the points system those who are at the bottom will still lose interest. The minus points feature is written into the Prediction League software so it must be a common feature.

 

I can easily scrub the minus points and recalculate the table (about three mouse clicks) but how can we change the rules with the competition underway?

 

I am sure that whoever runs the Prediction League next year will take note of all suggestions.

I will fight back from my - 27 position Sidders,but i will continue to oppose Hornchurch just to be on the safe side.

I have posted a message in the shout box on the Prediction League asking if anyone objects to the minus points feature being dropped. If there are no objections I will do it.

I appreciate your efforts,it doesn't bother me being on minus points but worry that it could effect the league over the course of the year.

I could easily re register under another name as i would be better off,but i feel that this would devalue the competition.

it don't bother me what format its in as i will always be in plus points as i don't make silly predictions like hornchurch 1 chelmsford 3

Cantos I have sent out an email to everyone. If we get no objections I will scrub all minus points and recalculate the table this coming Friday. I don't want to upset the leaders. If the change drops them down a few places they might not be happy about it.

I just feel very uncomfortable about changing the rules once we have started but if nobody objects then that's great.

I don't think it will turn people off to have minus points.If you are down the bottom some will get put off doing it anyway so i would leave it as it is in all honesty

You may be not be wrong UM,but i could jump 8 positions by simply re-registaring under a new name.

If we continue to keep minus points may i suggest that it is not possible to re enter under another name.

Cantos - you now have 11 points

 

I got a lot of feedback very quickly which means lots of people are interested.

 

The consensus was to award minus points for an incorrect prediction. There should be a penalty for numpty type predictions. However the minus score has been reduced from minus two to minus one point.

 

Not much of an effect on the table except I am now third instead of second!!

Cheers for that Sid,it looks a lot better when everyone has points.Minus 1 point is a fair compromise.
