Controversial subject - a new manager?

As I was the one who started off this thread and have appeared to have put 'the cat amongst the pigeons' as it were,I feel that my original statement and it's response went off in a different tangent.

I really do want Darron Wilkinson to succeed as a manager[he's always been a favourite of mine, as he always played with true spirit and heart] but feel, while not lacking in enthusiasm and effort,he is inexperienced and tactically out of his depth. That is why I think he needs to learn more off a more experienced manager. Unfortunately for him,the role has come too early.

I also think that we need a new captain[no one can argue with Steve Daly's service and commitment to Slough],I just think we need a fresh approach without all the on field arguments and back biting from some of these so-called experienced non-league footballers.Perhaps it's just the sign of the times? but some of our new and not-so new players[who think they're Cockney wide boys!]think slagging off officials is better than knuckling down and getting on with the game and getting Slough out of trouble!

I digress, most of us on this forum want to see Slough start moving up the table and for things to improve off the field[ground, payments, openness etc] but until we have a more disciplined, organised and good man management from all sides,it's looking more and more like an impossible dream.

I hope I'm proved wrong!

Why does it need locking - when people have said their two pence worth the thread will end on its own. Besides which, given the start to the season and his record as manager since taking over in January, you could hardly call it a controversial subject.

What is clear from the message on this forum is that the supporters in general have had enough of watching their team lose week after week. Whereas last season it became inevitable, the consensus is that things should be better this year. I don't think anybody with an ounce of sense would believe that we would be challenging up the league this year, but to sit bottom with 4 defeats and meekly bow out of the cup as we didn't have a goalkeeper indicates that we are not making any progress and we seem to be going backwards still. Supporters are right to be aggrieved at this situation.

However, there is no easy solution. I am still happy with Wilko as manager as I know that each bad result hurts him personally, and with a bit better fortune we could have got some results from the early matches. But if results don't pick up soon I think Wilko may think enough is enough and walk away, just as West did. And then we will be in even more trouble than we are already in

Good look to the boys on Saturday - I can't be there to support them

And yet again the curse of "Thou shalt not say a bad word against anyone connected to the playing and coaching side of Slough Town" has materialised again. Hows about the mods go around and delete every post that contains even the slightest bit of criticism? What makes Slough so special that if we criticise anyone we get chewed out, yet fans of every single other team from non-league to the Premiership can vent their frustrations and criticise players and management and that's fine? There's a serious case of double standards going on here...

Well for what it's worth everyone, I'm gutted with the situation and can't bring myself to watch that rubbish. I didn't expect to win the league or even vie for promotion, but I did expect us to be competitive and not roll over against very poor opposition.

There is something fundamentally wrong, hopefully Wilko knows what it is and will act sooner rather than later to sort it out. It's all too much like last season......................

no one can honestly doubt the commitment and love wilko has for the club, and imo a little longer is needed but at the end of the day a manager is judged on results and no matter of being a nice bloke will keep a person in a job,and by the feeling of some people on here their loyalty is being tested to the full and the worrying thing is how much of the support will be lost the more we lose.

The attendance on Saturday was, I think, 202. This is a level I seriously hope we never dip below on a regular basis. We're getting down to the bare bones now in terms of support (only the most loyal and/or insane) but it's the same with lots of other homeless clubs. I honestly believe that we can get the fans back in with a run of good results - this has to start very soon though.

One little lad came to his very first Slough match with his dad on Saturday. At half-time I asked he he was enjoying it, and his dad said "at least there's plenty of goals!".

So we can still attract youngsters. Just need to keep them.

There was no hindsight with comments made on this thread and if changes had been made in September 2007 or before, then it is highly likly that we would not have got relegated!

I said at the end of the 06/07 season Wilkinson should go, I said it again in September 07 but was told "no let him have a chance he has been loyal to the club, he will come good"

He should have been replaced earlier.

Sorry but I told you so!!!!
