Controversial subject - a new manager?

I think we should look to a new manager outside of our usual ex- player route. If I was the Chairman of Slough,I would bring in someone with proven managerial experience of the non-league scene ie someone like Dave Anderson ex AFC Wimbledon now coach at Windsor,I think? I would keep Wilko as a coach,so he could learn more about tactics and management,so we've got a ready made successor or just for a caretaker capacity[bit like Steve Thompson has done at Yeovil].Also take on another coach with strong Slough connections[Matt Miller comes to mind].

I would out Daly,Metcalfe,Harper,Roddis,Murphy,Betts and bring in some younger players and a couple of the new manager's trusted players. Also make up a new captain someone level headed with a bit of dignity, integrity and a good ambassador for the club.

Then build my team around Terry Davies,Jon Mills,Danny Jefferies,Leon Woodruffe[who I wouldn't want used as a left back]as I think he's wasted there, and Lucas Bizon, and keep fringe players Browne,Bartley,Braich,Deaner, who are very loyal to Slough.

What do other supporters think?

couple of things that spring to mind...

1) can we afford to bring in a decent manager on our budget? would it be worth looking for a couple of good players instead?

2) if we can find someone how long would we have to wait before the results change? 10 games? 15? by which time we could be in so much trouble that few people could save us. would it not be better to stick with someone who knows the players well and can improve on the squad rather than take the risk?

How long does Darron Wilkinson and his management team need to win a game!

i think that the present set up is ok, with maybe a few changes, i think that if the team started to play like a team instead of thinking they all can individually win the match, because lets face it if they were that good they wouldn't be playing at this level, the biggest things that need to change in the team i think is attitude and general workrate they should work and cover for each other chase every ball and don't give opposition players time on the ball, none of these things are being done at this moment in time, but to think of changing the management this early in the season seem a bit poorly thought out if you ask me.

Sounds to me like you just described Steve Daly.

Do you honestly believe that Wilko doesn't care? Honestly?

Wilko is probably in the same position as us almost...he loves the club but cannot work out why the results have been so poor. He is a great servant to the club and he and the players need the backing of the fans, and until he or the club decides it is time for a change he has my backing 100%

Staines, I can't believe you can possibly feel that Wilko doesn't care about thwe club, If he didn't care he wouldn't have stuck around all these years through all the [****!!****], stepped in last season, held it all together despite everything, put himself in goal yesterday, despite being injured and look totally gutted every time we lose. (God I'm so angry my typing has gone completely to pot). If he didn't care so passionately about the club he would have [****!!****] off long ago like all the others. Rant over.

I personally have nothing against Wilko and think he is a top bloke and desperately want him to succeed. the only thing I worry about with him is contacts as I have mentioned before as they players we have got in are either ex players or ex Hayes players either not good enough or past there best.

What I'd personally like to see is Wilko say to Roddis or Betts, 'right this week I don't need both of you here, go to a lower league game and scout some players'. Then we may be able to see some hungry young players from a lower league that we can develop.

Am also exceedingly angered by the mere idea that Wilko doesn't care...anyone who's ever spoken to the man or even just seen him at the end of the game KNOWS how much he cares about the club.

As i've said with quite a few people now, I would love to have seen someone else step in last season so that Wilko could have been an assistant manager and learned off someone more experienced. However, since no-one was remotely interested in the role after Denton's departure (except West obviously who didn't last that long), the club, fans and players should be grateful for Wilko's presence.

As for calling for a new manager after 4 league games and an FA Cup match defeat (which was shocking i agree), I personally think that's ridiculous. For goodness sake, look at the Premiership at the moment...Jol currently walking a tightrope, Mourinho made to look like a right idiot by Aston Villa at the weekend and even the untouchable Alex Ferguson is feeling the heat...

I do like Chris' idea of sending Roddis and/or Betts away for a week to scout for some youth talent - Datchet had their sunday league tournament this week where there were about 12 teams, any of which could've had someone for the future, but there was noone there to see.

I like Chris' idea

The words "If he cared" might have been the wrong way to put it, what I was trying to put across is that Wilko has filled the gap since Denton & West left because of his commitment to the club, however things are not going forward or even standing still under the current set up, but the club is continuing to slide down the pyrimid to a point that something major needs to happen, and in my opinion that needs a change at the top to make it happen.

Where that would leave Wilko is an issue - would he still wish to be involved with the club considering his commitment.

The one issue that is obvious on this forum is that no one has come up with a suggestion to change the current position of the club without a change in personel or a major injection of cash.

If I have upset some on here I am sorry - however the current situation will see more tears if nothing is done!

The problem is nothing to do with cash, and at the same time everything to do with cash. We have I believe one of the highest, if not the highest, wage budget in the entire division and yet we haven't even come close to getting a draw let alone a win. And even if the budget was there every week, the events of last season when players were told that they would be paid on time and then not being paid for weeks at a time has still cast a stigma over the club and players will be wary of coming here, and it will take at least a full season or a total regime change at the highest level for that stigma to go.

So no slaging off:-

The Manager - as he has won 1 game since January, so lets be grateful for that.

The Players

The Off field Management

The Owner - who ever that may be

The Pitch

The Trust

Other teams

Windsor fans

Jarvis - although I was right about him all the time, but others said "give him a chance, he's changed"

All the others who said they would play for Slough for the love of it but "F"ed off when the money stoped.

Am I still allowed to give Devonshire stick?

Probably not the best place for me to air my views but here goes, and no offence meant to anyone.........

Barry, do you seriously think we have one of if not the highest budget in the league??

If you have been told this then your being fed some serious bulls?@t,

the budget is similar to last seasons, here one week half the next. Not something that anyone could commit to promising players because as any current player will tell you ANYTHING is a bonus.

Maybe there is a stigma at the club, surely this tells you that the players and staff are at stfc for the club for the right reasons? Especially as it was being the team with decent finances that crippled us last time.

As for those questioning wilkos commitment, you should take a long hard look at yourself. Then if you're still doubtful try talking to the most approachable man in non league.

Maybe the club does need a new direction, but it would be wrong to not have someone like wilko involved who gives 100% to everything he does for the stfc.

It didn't take long for the "everyone together" mentality to dissapear from last season. Them and us will send the club further and further down the pyramid.

Take stock and let's all get on the same page for saturday, officials supporters and team pulling the same way. TOGETHER.
