I see that Steve is on the move again.

 

He signed for Erith & Belvedere on Friday and scored two goals on his debut!

Anybody know why he never settles anywhere, is it an attitude problem or does he just get bored, he has certainly played for some teams but still scoring goals, got to admire that.

Super Daz ,you should know better than joke about one of our clubs alltime greats! If you had been a supporter at the time and actually seen him play and expreienced the excitement he generated you would hopefully understand. Steve Portway is a goalscoring legend and it is still difficult to work out why he never played at a higher level when others with only a fraction of his ability managed to do so.

He may be 77 , but he is still 10 times better than Abbott.

For those supporters who haven't seen Portway play - he and Micky Cotter were simply phenomenal. I know it was at a lower standard, but Portway proved he could score against Football league teams - remember his goal v Orient.

Oh for a forward line of Portway and Bostock - with Cotter behind them !!

At least with Portway we got £17000 for him when he moved on to Gloucester, what happened to that i dont know, Dave Hubbick was mentioned in the NPL on Sunday something about AFC Sudbury in the Vase, i think Hubbick only stayed a couple of years didn't he leave just after we got relegated from the Alliance league, agree good player though, used to like Dave Bostock remember being gutted when Tony Sitford sold him to Poole Town for £2500 in 1974, funny how they both came back.
