FA Cup

Recommended Posts

This Saturday we'll find out if we're travelling to Welwyn Garden City or Cockfosters in the 1st Qualifying Round on 15th September.

We had a great season in the league last year, and I know we've all started this season with an eye on that top spot and promotion. But, when looking to the future it's important not to forget to enjoy the present.

If anything could improve on last season (apart from promotion!) it would be a decent Cup or Trophy run for me. I know a lot of people disagree and see them as a diversion from the important job of doing well in the league. But, apart from the excitement for the fans of knock-out football, I think more success in these competitions also does the club good in raising its profile.

To draw a well supported, high profile team from the higher leagues at NL, with the associated press & media coverage, has got to be good for business. I'm sure it's at least partly responsible for our friends up the road increasing their gates.

So wherever we end up on 15th September I hope it's the start of a decent run with some good home draws.

Wouldn't mind a run in the FA Cup this year, last couple of seasons haven't been great... FA Trophy not too bothered either way, ESC and league cup only worth bothering with if you get to the semi final stage at least.

Promotion has to be the priority though, and if that means maybe resting a couple for the cup then so be it.

Personally I think its fairly important to have a good cup run

I also don't think it has that much of a detrimental effect on the team as the season Ricay finished runners up the team reached the first round of the FAC and got far in the FAT playing Exeter away

Round Date Fixtures Clubs Byes/Exemptions Prize money

Extra Preliminary Round 19 August 2006 129 687 → 558 none £500

Preliminary Round 2 September 2006 166 558 → 392 203: 227th-429th £1,000

First Round Qualifying 16 September 2006 116 392 → 276 66: 161st-226th £2,250

Second Round Qualifying 30 September 2006 80 276 → 196 44: 117th-160th £3,750

Third Round Qualifying 14 October 2006 40 196 → 156 none £5,000

Fourth Round Qualifying 28 October 2006 32 156 → 124 24: 93rd-116th £10,000

First Round Proper 11 November 2006 40 124 → 840 48: 45th-92nd £16,000

Second Round Proper 2 December 2006 20 84 → 64 none £24,000

Third Round Proper 6 January 2007 32 64 → 32 44: 1st-44th £40,000

Fourth Round Proper 27 January 2007 16 32 → 16 none £60,000

Fifth Round Proper 17 February 2007 8 16 → 80 none £120,000

Sixth Round Proper 10 March 2007 4 8 → 4 none £300,000

Semi-finals 14 April 2007 2 4 → 2 none £900,000

Final 19 May 2007 1 2 → 1 none £1,000,000

To get to the 1st round brings in 22k in prize money plus half the gate revenues over the run could with decent draws bring in nearly 50k in additional revenue said revenue could then be used to bring in one or two players whos extra quality could make the difference in the championship race

Round

Payment

Preliminary Round winners (46)£1,000

First Round Qualifying winners (72)£1,500

Second Round Qualifying winners (36)£2,000

Third Round Qualifying winners (40)£3,000

First Round Proper winners (32)£4,000

Second Round Proper winners (16)£5,000

Third Round Proper winners (8)£6,000

Fourth Round Proper winners (4)£8,000

Semi Final winners (2)£16,000

Final winners (1)£50,000

Final runners-up (1)£25,000

The amounts in the FAT don't to appealing though so the players cnaa have a day off for then

Also any ideas for when Ricay actually enter the FAT

Also are the club bothering with the thameside and floodlit thropy this season

We enter the FA Trophy at the 1st Round Qualifying stage on Saturday the 20th October. We have a home draw against either Ilford or Avely.

Good point about the season we came runners up and played Exeter. In retrospect it was that Exeter games that gave me "the bug" again after being a few years in the wilderness!

I think the FA Cup is important, simply due to the amount of money that a decent run brings in. As mentioned above if you did get to the first round and had some decent ties along the way you could easily bring in 30-40 K and thats proper wonga.

The trophy is less important but you still might get a decent awayday out of it. The minor cups should be used for trying out players and formations etc but again if we did happen to get to a final it would be a good day out.

No doubt tho that the league has to be our number one priority.

Come on you blues!!
