A question for the purists!

At a throw in one of the attacking players runs into what would have been an offside position to make himself available to receive the ball.

However the ball is thrown to another player in, technically, an onside position.

Does that make the first mentioned player offside as he is still close to the onfield action?

But player one is still in his offside position when player two collects the ball.

Which brings me back to my original posting.

If Player one is still in an offside position after player two has received the ball from the throw, then whether Player one is adjudged offside or not will be decided by the officials depending on whether they consider him "active" or "passive", i.e. whether or not he's "interfering with play"!

BUT. If player one is in an onside position by the time he receives the ball then what then!

If he has come back to an onside position from an offside position, then the ref will need to determine whether his original offside position gave him any advantage.

The magic words in the current new ruling on off-side are....

"If, in the opinion of the referee................."

Spit the bones out of that one !!!!

Then that is fine Tbag.

Cause at the end of the day, he would have to come away from goal to get himself onside, so cant see him getting any advantage from it.

Its the same as attackers making runs from an offside position, to an onside position for when the ball is being played.

Best person for this was Ruud Van Nistelhorse.
