Huge relief at the end of all that !!

Why do we seem so hell bent on keeping the opposition in the game ! Yet again, asleep at the start of the second half. Yet again, conceding straight after scoring ! My poor heart can’t take all this stress !

On the plus side, thought we looked good going forward again this week, with Bentley and Kwashi particularly strong while Jimmy’s goal was a corker !

Some of the other results went our way, and I was particularly pleased to see that Stevenage dropped more points.

In the end, all that matters is that we picked up another three vital points.

Come on you reds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could have been 5 up at half time. Burton croumbled in the 1st half, after the 1st goal & looked like a team with big morale problems.

But - all credit for their 2nd half effort: Mr Clough must have delivered one hell of a half time rollocking. I know their 2nd was the softest goal ever but they could have got a point. Just glad they didn't, if for no other reason than that their no. 9 was so unbelievably gobby. Ref would have been quite justified in yellow then red carding him for continuing to try & bully him & the assistant in front of the seated stand.

Who cares now, though? A crucial win. Well done to the crowd too, for the continued encouragement.

Great! Fantastic!

Dodgy at the back but did we really expect anything else with the number of players we have out?

Ref was the best I have seen this season.

3 points is 3 points......and the league table looks a lot lot better! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Wilkersons first half safe just prior to the header that hit our bar was special. Well done Gravesend and Northfleet. That was a hugely entertaining game................

Chatting to Jessica during the game - agree with Daz - ref was the best yet , silly booking for Jacko - it wasn't even him time wasting.

Thought Ben White was very strong in the middle today , Tos was electric on the right , but Che needed someone stronger than Simon Parker alongside him. Good to see McKimm back , all we need is the Duke back and we are up to full strength.

What a relief 3 points in the bag,Jacko back from injury, I dont think there are many players who would have been back so soon after injury.I thought Simon Parker had a good game considering this is the first full game he has played in a while.

I looked at the conference guide site,if we had only played the first half of all our games we would be third in the league,if we had only played the second half we would be third from bottom, need I say more,Fleet wake up after half time PLEASE.

Andy was happy he was buying the drinks in the bar for the boys.

I checked out the Burton forum and the knives are out.

Thought the ref was decent, apart from the bookings for both Benno and Jacko. Jacko didnt even get the ball in his hands, so certainly wasnt guilty of timewasting (and I think several throws earlier in the game actually took longer to release, any way !!), and while Benno's challenge was clumsy, it wasnt bad enough to warrant a yellow - a good talking to would have been sufficient, especially as it was his first mistimed tackle of the game.

There were also one or two worse challenges in the second half (the one where the Burton player seemed to go over the top on jacko springs to mind to start with) which the ref didnt even speak to their guy about, let alone produce a yellow card.

Didnt think we played especially well today, particularly in the second half.

We were really open at the back for much of the rest of the second half and could easily have ended up losing the game, let alone drawing it.

Some good goals today though - Benno's first was another of those well worked goals from a corner, Jacko's goal was an excellent finish at the second attempt and Benno's second was an excellent solo goal, winning the ball on the left with his head, controllingit, cutting inside and hitting a super low shot past the keeper.

Their first goal was a good strike as well - a good volley from the edge of the box.

Still, despite the heart attacks, we managed to get the 3 points and thats all that matters at the moment - style of play isnt important, as long as we keep winning.

Jacko was certainly upbeat in his post match RK interview and believes we can get something at Doncaster next week.

And RK's , Ms Fording, was even quite reasonable with her interviewing questions, although her match reports were somewhat humerous again - her half time report on Jacko's goal was something like "Gravesend didnt seem to be on any kind of attack" followed by "Jackson doesnt score many goals other than from free kicks & seemed quite pleased with his goal.. His teammates did to, and mobbed him - it was really quite sweet" (Yes she really did say that last bit !!)

Not a sensational performance today, and better finishing by Burton's front pair and we would have been in trouble. The similarities with the Woking game were evident, with the score patterns matching that game (except the fact that we got a fourth last time). Terribly nerve-wracking towards the end - it was a shame we couldn't have tied the game up after taking such an early 2-0 lead, and I agree that we looked lax at times as though we thought the job was done. Nonetheless, the win was very valuable and we did just enough.

I agree that Ben White put in a pleasingly improved performance today, and I thought Tostao caused some problems and crossed well as usual. However, special mentions must be made for Jacko, who scored an unbelievable goal considering the hefty tackle that injured him last week (his powers of recovery seem to be astonishing grin.gif), and my MOTM, Benno - a fantastic second goal for him, always a threat in the air and just generally brilliant. grin.gif

I hope we will switch back to a four-man defence next week when Skins returns from suspension, for the three at the back system still looks a bit suspect.

A great win today - well done lads!

As Fleet Boy says at this stage of the season points are more important than the performance. Once again we didn't finish the game off when we should have and let the opposition back into the game. Tos had a good game but the one thing with him is his crossing....................he's great to see when he beats the defenders by turning them inside out but then to end with a cross that fails to beat the next defender or sails over the bar, very frustrating.

I have to say that Benno was my MoM by miles but the best part of the day was seeing Macca return after his long absence. All in all a most satisfying, if somewhat heartstopping day.

Glad someone else noticed the exotically dressed gentleman at the Northfleet End. I was beginning to think he was a product of the mushrooms my mummy gave me for breakfast. Strange things have been known to happen when she gathers her own. I thought he was cross-dressing in a full scale Sari outfit myself, rather than going for the Arabian effect. Whatever, it was very fetching.

More of the same please. One of the best crowd performances of the season.

Agree with most of the things said, 3 points was the most important factor, don't think i can take much more of this heart stopping stuff, thought ref was the best this season, except for Jacko's booking and his 5 added on minutes to further edge me towards a heart attack, great to see Macca back, Bentley my man of match again, good to see Ben White play better, still worried about this lapse in concentration what's happened to the coming out early in preparation for the second half. Anyway good stuff

Excellent first half performance, slight lapses in the second but all in all Great Win!!!

Bentley Man of the Match by a long way (again!!)

Ben Whites best game by miles!!

Referee was good for a change, bit miffed to see 3 minutes stoppage time in the 1st half and 5 minutes at the end. I think he might have bought his watch from the Manchester United Club Shop!
