Match Thread v Paulton

If Daly is injured that might explain why he decided against chasing back on Saturday - in which case apologies.

At the moment we can only put together very short spells of anything approching half decent football before conceding a goal and losing all confidence. There was nothing even remotely entertaining in the game and the goal Terry popped in really was just the merest of consolations.

I'm finding watching Slough a bit disspiriting. There are signs of hope - Charles looked useful and hopefully can form a decent partnership with Matty. CJ had been our best player in the three games in which he featured and the left side with Woody is looking ok. But centre midfield, the right side and the defence are a problem.

Rovers put Saturday’s disappointing result behind them with a comprehensive 3-1 victory. They almost took the lead in the second minute as Lee Marshall, playing as central defender in the absence of injured Rob Cousins forced the first of many saves from Slough keeper, Aaron France. The visitors has Adrian Browne booked as early as the third minute for two poor challenges and he was joined moments later by Dean Harper, this time for kicking the ball away. Rovers almost went ahead on 14 minutes as Ben Cleverley’s corner was partially cleared and Mark Harington’s overhead kick into the box was flicked narrowly wide by Rob Claridge. Rovers had a scare a minute later when Lee Charles was through on the left despite looking well offside but Dave Dyson did well to block the attempted lob.

Rovers pressure brought it’s reward on the half hour as Claridge’s flicked header from a throw in was backheeled by Dan Cleverley to Lee Bryant whose shot from the edge of the penalty area gave France no chance. Slough responded and Dyson did well did save a thirty yard effort from Terry Davies. Rovers almost went into half time two up but Lanes’ deflected effort just missed the far post with the keeper stranded.

Rovers missed a great chance on 53 minutes as Ben Cleverley took a free kick on the right but Claridge failed to get enough on the ball. It was not to prove costly as three minutes later Chris Lane rushed to the byline and his cross was forced home at the far post by Dan Cleverley. Lane and Ross Casey then had efforts that just cleared the bar. On 67 minutes Dan Cleverley did well on the left and his cross found substitute Ricky Hulbert but he shot straight at France.

Rovers made the game safe on 70 minutes as Lane’s pass was flicked on by Dan Cleverley to Claridge whose fine 30 yard drive went in off the post. Slough pulled a goal back on 80 minutes as the hard working Lee Charles created space on the left for Terry Davies and although Nick Hudson was able to clear off the line the ball fell again to Davies who this time made no mistake.

Lane then went on a dazzling 30 yard run that took him past two Slough defenders but France blocked his shot. Substitute Mark Rowlands then won the ball in midfield and with defenders backing off shot just wide.

I'm sorry Paul but the ball did not go into the top corner and was not driven powerfully. It was well placed but looping shot. I did not say France should have saved it. He was not at fault for any of the goals nor for another abject performance.

do you mean just the away games or watching the rebels at all.
who would you watch what is the alternative.
i think the management have about 4 games to sort it out otherwise we will go on like last season and will lose a lot more support.
we need a manager with a proven track in the southern league at this level, who knows the league and how to grind out some results to get us up the table. its no point having a nice guy as manager if the football is rubbish.
we need a change now.

Wow i thought Windsor fans were negative!

However who would want to come to Slough in the state your in who has a proven track record?

No offence but your lower down the list than alot of clubs in terms of good jobs to take!

I think we missed out on a lot of good managers who were "available" at the end of last season. Quite a few were spotted around the ground at various home games, but to be honest I dont think there are many who would take the job on.

Maybe the forum should take over?

Woody has a very good point actually, but in any case people are getting far too carried away.

Were four games into a season. Yes it's not good, but there are 38 games still for Wilko to put it right and if he gets some new faces in i'm quite confident he will.

It's apparent to everyone to see how the squad is not good enough and i'm sure Wilko is doing his best to put this right.

Ex-players that we have brought back are Browne, Deaner, Metcalfe, Woody (not too sure if he actually left us), CJ and possibly Murphy.

All I will say is IMO the only ones who are good enough to 'help us go anywhere this season' are Woody, CJ and Murphy.

We need to get Wilko fit to play and get Jeffries, Hokan (if they are still with us) and Bizon back into the squad to give us the option of dropping players who are not performing.

I'm still doing my 100 mile round trip to home games, and whatever the mileage is to away games, unless I'm not around.

We just need to get a win under our belt, and get away from that feeling of another game lost (before it has started). I we can keep up that first half performance, stop the silly mistakes, and get some good crosses in to people who are waiting in the box, we will be fine.

The players aer there, they just need confidence in each other to do the right thing.

It's FA Cup this Saturday, and most people are expecting a loss, so let's go and have fun and get behind the players. You never know in a one off game.

A very poor pre-season was the precurser for a very bad start to the season. I've seen nothing to convince me that we can expect anything else but relegation if there isn't a massive overhaul.

Without an injection of new personnel to augment the likes of Woodruffe, Davies, CJ & Murphy then we're doomed. The sides we've played have been terrible so what's that say about us?

I really can't watch this stuff, in over 50 years of support I haven't seen anything as bad.
