GNFC petition?

Anyone see the bit in the Reporter (Bob Ogley, the history page) where he says he received a petition against the EUFC name change from someone preferring to remain anonymous?!

I particularly liked the caption of the Chris Weller squad: "GNFC in their heyday in 1995."

Hehehhe.... if 1995 was our heyday, it must be some kind of eternal waking nightmare supporting the Fleet.

Old day values would be nice, but in this sponsor driven era, that is no longer possible.

Dartford have already got more money than us, we could do with the sponsor we have.

No one likes a change......well most people prefer things the way they are but as ive said before untold times WE ARE STILL THE FLEET............

We could be called Gravesham or Kent or Cr*p, it dont matter we are THE FLEET at the end of the day no matter what we are called.

Although i still call us gravesend when i speak to mates, and even dartford supporters still know us as Gravesend part from a few that wind me up (opening brackets when saying ebbsfleet).

I thought that the sponsorship was because of the name change, not a deal as if to say if we dont change the name we wont get the sponsor?

because of the ongoing development its a three year deal aint it? and because eurostar is situated in ebbsfleet, was the idea of changing the name, im sure the sponsors had no say in that?

I still think about it like this, the name is the identity of the club, its the one thing that usually, and should be guarunteed to stay constant. Board members change, players and staff come and go, fans change. Ebbsfleet didn't play villa, ebbsfleet didn't get promoted to the conference.

And it will really be noticeable when its ebbsfleet Utd at ebbsfleet stadium in ebbsfleet trying to attract the new residents in ebbsfleet.

Its only a name change now but look further ahead...

OK, am looking further ahead and still don't really see anything bad or sinister. If the area as a whole becomes known as Ebbsfleet, that's hardly the fault of the club... rather the club are looking ahead and trying to exploit the opportunities of what could become a region where 'Gravesend' and 'Northfleet' are as immaterial as places like Rosherville today.

You don't have to like it, but you certainly have to recognise there is some business sense in it. Whether it works or not, none of us are qualified to say.

Only true to non fleet supporters when they ask the question of who?

But to those who remember such events its 'the fleet' true?

I do understand that in say 10 years to a majority of football supporters they aint going to have a clue of who gravesend is or was because they will know the team as ebbsfleet, and that it is situated in ebbsfleet, and that we play in ebbsfleet etc, but always be remembered by the fleet.

I dont want gravesend to be forgotten like....wimbledon. Im sure it wont by fans and memorys of promotion will always remain. Same as we will always be the Fleet.

Hear, Hear. Stu. It does make sense. I would sooner have a club with a name change than no club at all. As I've posted before on this issue. For all the dissenters. For goodness sake LIVE WITH IT

If Bob Ogley put up the dosh, I'm sure we could change the name to Sevenoaks Utd to suit.
