Teffs - from Ash Website

Ash on Tuesday night throw away three points in the dying minutes after battling themselves back into the game.

From the off Banstead took the game to Ash & inside the opening minute could have taken the lead but for a reflex save by Chris Andrews prevented them scoring. However Banstead pressure did tell on 11 minutes when after giving away a needless freekick, the ball was well delivered into the box where the ball was flicked on for Sam Hewitt to run unmarked at the far post to slot the ball home. Banstead continued to press & Chris Andrews had to tip away a curling effort. From the effort Ash broke quickly & released Matt Stamp who out paced the Banstead defender but blasted his shot at the keeper & the chance went begging. Ash was trying hard to get into the game but was finding it hard to break through a well-organised side. At the other end Ash were living a charmed life as the Banstead forwards got free inside the box but their efforts either went wide or Chris Andrews made a couple of decent save & at half time Ash found themselves just the one goal down.

The second half was a different story as Ash played some neat & quick attacking play with opened up Banstead. However Banstead still looked dangerous on the break & could easily have gone further in front. Ash slowly but surely began to get on top & finally got the equaliser on 61 minutes when Matt Morris won the ball back in defence & released Nick Sowden who in turn sent Matt Brunt away down the right & he produced a excellent pin point cross for Gavin Evans to head the ball home. Soon after Ash could have taken the lead when Gavin Evans latched onto a poor clearance & released Nick Sowden but with just the keeper to beat Nick blasted over. Then a good move down the right Gavin Evans play the ball into the penalty area where Paul Bonner challenged the keeper the ball fell nicely for Paul but his effort was cleared off the line. Pressure was now mounting & another good move down the right saw Matt Brunt’s cross flicked on to Gavin Evans whose cracking volley had the keeper well beaten but smacked against the post. Then finally Ash did take the lead when Gavin Evans played in Nick Sowden, he held off the defender before lifting the ball over the advancing keeper & into the roof off the net for his first goal for the club. This sparked Banstead into action & on 83 minutes a long throw wasn’t defended well by Ash & when the ball fell to Dale Marvell he hammered the ball past Chris Andrews. Both sides were now going for the victory & on 88 minutes Banstead were awarded a freekick on the edge off the box, up stepped James Deacons to curl the ball around the wall & into the net off the post to send Banstead home with all three points.

Dont get me started......

Before i go on to the game id just like to say my bit about the ref...and i think el gaffer will prob agree.

The ref was quite simply the worst i've seen for a while. He let so many bad tackles go and bookable offences like shirt pulling, but then booked people for not being 10 yards away. He booked one Banstead player and then 2 mins later the same player put in a late tackle on myself, ref went to show a card only to realise he would have to send him off so didnt bother. I could go on and on about mistakes the ref made.... i wont though!!

Thankfully i can say that none of his very poor decisions affected the outcome of the game.

Banstead controlled the first half and went in to the break 1 up. Possibly with some better finishing could have been 2 or 3 up. 2nd half Ash controlled and went 2-1 up with 10 mins to go and also hit the post and 1 cleared off the line. Banstead got an equaliser with 5 to go and then scored from a free kick in the dying seconds.

Banstead are a good side and will do well this season.

Pretty much spot on that report to be honest.

We played very well 1st half and should have been at least 3 up. 2nd half they battered us to be fair but we soaked up the pressure well. 2-1 down with 10 to go and our boys stepped up a gear to win, job done.

Oh yeah......and Johnno got booked............AGAIN!!

Why did i get booked?????

Cos the fecking ref was gutless and couldnt spot a foul if it went up to him and smacked him in the face. So i put in a tackle/foul so the ref may recognise one in the future. Apologies to their number 8 - nothing personal!

Just frustration.
