tonight.......

just got in and not read any other posts so here goes...

 

great anticipation for me looking forwards to tonights game....regardless of what our feelings are about the past we have had to work our way back into the premier league and the step up in every way is massive from seasons past spent in the lower echelons of the pyramid....

 

lots of colour and banter from 6ish onwards as the fans congregated and much nervous anticipation as I spoke to fans and officials from both clubs......from the off 'ricay were lively and pressed hard but we weathered the storm and for 30 minutes until half time we controlled the game...3 half chances that normally get buried by our strikers went astray and two sitters were missed.......

 

half time and a feeling of not our night manifesting itself within me...

 

second half and we were on the back foot straight away as our midfield stayed deep and inevitably another free kick conceded and a superb left foot from hodges curled into the net from 25 yards......'ricay lucky to keep eleven on the pitch as the ref missed the last man pull down of parks free on goal and after that very much a struggle against the tide as 'ricay outplayed us in midfield....for 5 minutes we threatened to decive with three corners before we were caught cold 3 on 2 with minutes left as another superb finish from outside the box curled in for 0-2...

 

on another day we score the sitters before half time and the ref sees the blatant foul and its a different game....no complaints from me tonight however...ricay rode their luck and outplayed us in the last 40 minutes.....as always both sets of fans were fantastic...and a crowd of over 1100 did credit to their respective teams....

 

well done to everyone concerned on a great night for footie in essex but a disappointng night for urchins at the bridge.....

 

we shall gain strength from tonight and will be there at the end of the season...

As unc said, we had the chances in the first half. Our desire for the second ball needs to be addressed.

On a positive note, at the end, you would have thought that Ricay had won the league. It's a long season

I enjoyed my first visit to The Bridge. Good atmos, good banter, good grub and, for us, a good result I look forward to coming back some time.

Your right Digger, we were chuffed with the result. You have a well earned reputation as tough oppo and with the additional element of local derbie tension was high.
