Attendance yesterday

804 was more than i was expecting.

Hpoefully we can win next two games (Wealdstone looks a tough one in particular) to set up a decent bank holiday crowd against Horsham.A winning team will attract the crowds-why do we always seem to lose just when we need a win to set up a good crowd =although the club should be doing alot more to attract customers.

i note that on www.kentishfootball.co.uk

that prior to yesterdays game, RT expresses disappointment with attendances.

I think most of us are just about over last season's mess -up/capitulation and have a new found respect for the way RT has assembled a decent side over the summer; but the club needs to look at itself off -pitch as to what it is doing both positively to attract customers, and negatively to put customers off attending-mimimal info, concerns re: club house, no cover against the weather.

As another post says, the club must see and respond to the signs being given out by many of the most loyal supporters

Maybe RT needs to have a chat with the directors about what they can do to help raise attendances.

Its all simple, easy, non costly stuff aswell

AS Frankie alludes to:what could it have been with a bit of non costly (including time) effort by the club.

You only get one chance to promote your first game of the season against one of the more 'attractive' clubs

To be fair, the entire back page (apart from ads) of the Thanet Gazette was given over to Margate/Ramsgate's opening matches, Margate then had the entire page 50 and Ramsgate Page 51. Additionally the clubs again shared the entire page 52.

That is editorial and economic advertising.

When you look around at the other attendances 800 plus is really very good - it can be better as we know but it is all down to how the season pans out, if both clubs are successfull is as important as the bar, hot dogs and all that stuff (important as I agree they are.

What other advertising could economically be done? I don't believe that an advert in the local press each week is going to be as effective as good editorial in there or the trade press (need for good stories), and not everyone is able to gain access to the internet. We already have, through the courtesy of volunteers, fixture cards, adverts in shops etc.

I think that it is a matter of everybody plugging away at it, from management through players to supporters to make people feel that they cannot afford to miss games in case they miss something.

Its a long term thing in my opinion but I do believe that our attendance is good for our situation - just think how some of those other clubs would have liked such an attendance.

I am a little concerned however about the lack of cover at the ground now. I don't know whether it would be economical sense for the club to invest in a temporary covered terrace at the coffin end. At least there would be cover for both set of supporters.
