Margate 1 Chelmsford 1 FT

A very fair result today I thought. Just a shame that one misplaced header out fell into the path of one of their players to let them back in. However the equaliser was sweet it has to be said.

Margate hit woodwork twice, once the ball hit the upright & rolled along the line & out & on the other occasion Howarth pile-drived one against their upright.Chelmsford had a Protheroe free kick smack against the bar.

Chelmsfords goal was a cracker from about 25 yds & Luke Coleman took his well too.

Shame we couldnt hold on though as having taken the lead we didn't really look like conceding, but concede we did.

Slightly disappointed, but only slightly, having been so close to the victory but am more than happy that the team played well, exceptionally well..taking everything into consideration.I would have settled for the point before the game I admit.

Crowds will come back if they continue with performances like that and both teams will improve even further for this their first run out. There were two decent sides out there today.

Good to hear Tone, am looking forward to seeing them 'in the flesh' soon - probably the Wealdstone game!! After I've moved....

Feel much the same.

I think RT and a few others are really upset though.

We'd done the hard work, weathered the storm, only to make an individual error and concede.

Agree that overall a fair result.

Thought we were a bit average first half, and did not have any midfield control.

Thought Mckimm and Standen played much beter second half, especially Standen and thus despite playing against the wind, took a bit of control in midfield (thats why i feel we need another good midfield player-looked unbalanced with 3 forward subs on bench.

Despitr it being an individual error, i do slightly question the subs-upset the rythmn imo.

Obviously Howarth was injured, but Pinnock is experienced at this level and thought he should have stayed on in such an important game, and the last sub was definately one too many.Coleman was tiring a bit, but he 'had the pace of the game'.

As it was we had 3 new forwards on for last 15 minutes and lost it;so whilst an individual error, i do question the merit of 3 subs. in such an important game against a decent and experienced side-it was not a friendly game.

Notwithstanding the goal, i thought Coleman played very very well.As did Trott who commanded at the back.

I think everyone would have settled for a point before the game but either Chelmsford are a lot more average than everyone made them out to be or we will be up there with them.

I did not really see a lot at all between the sides today and had it not been for that one lapse then we would be quietly confident of the rest of the season. Or shouting from the rooftops that we had beaten one of the fancied sides.

I thought the football was good at times and all three new boys who started gave good accounts for themselves. For a short lad Danny Young wins a lot of headers in his own box!

Good crowd too in my opinion. 100 max from Chelmsford I would say so we have kept on to pretty much all the fan base from last term.

Coleman didn't look tired to me. Had scored and looked on a high. The best you can say for Bagley, who came on for him, is that he took time to settle and made a crucial error. He shouldn't have been that far out anyway in that situation.

I am not saying it was all one man's fault. Question the final sub though unless Coleman really did have a problem.

Unlike others above I thought Side did at least as much as Pinnock. That is not to criticise Pinns' workrate or commitment, just that he didn't win enough balls for my liking.

I personally think we were the better side and very unlucky not to win it. Bagley was very poor when he came on and Akinde seemed to struggle to get into the game. Apart from that everyone played very well. Luke Coleman i think has to be man of the match and took his goal very well. If we play like this through most of the season we should finish in the play-offs. Could not see why Chelmsford are one of the favourites to win the league, their defence was poor today taking nothing away from our attackers.

Overall pleased with the result and delighted with the performance.

Good to see the arrogant side of Thanet got taught a lesson today.

liked what i saw today , seems to be a team spirt about the club again which is great to see , but our heads dropped for 10 mins and we were punished , 1st game of the season though and against one of the favorites and i think that will show the rest that MFC are still going to be around hunting for a title or play off spot come end of season. LIked the look of Coleman , Trotty could have found a gem . Up the Gate.

Agree with all of above. Why did we make all those substitutions? Really lost the flow when they came on. Its the first time I've seen the team this year and a lot of my fears have been quashed. However I don't like to single out players but thought Akinde looked completely lost out there. A couple of nice touches when in space but when under pressure didn't seem to have the strength. A fair result however but a little disappointed at the draw.

The midfield really played well in the second half, until the last ten minutes anyway. Standen and Macca won the battle in the middle, and Coleman and Jacko ran the wings. Deano my man of the match.

Trotty must be gutted. He's done a great job IMO this summer in getting this team together and a lack of experience as has been mentioned elsewhere from a couple of the subs caused us to come under major pressure at the end. Still I'd have taken 1-1 before the game. Onwards to East Thurrock.

Akinde : Should have made a good chance for Side but failed to look up. Perservere with him though,in the FIRST team,& he will be magic.Theres much more to come from this lad.

Young : Terrific in defence.

Side : Did very well when introduced.

Coleman : (Someone who I rate),Wasn't really in the game today until he scored (took it very well). That will have given his confidence a massive boost having been so unfortunate in friendlies.

Harte : Solid & broke Brayleys heart I thought. Completely snuffed him out of the game..

Howarth : A thorn on the oppositions side. Genuine & extremely hard working. His play so far in both todays game & the friendlies has been inspirational. He'll score lots of goals & provide many more besides.

Trotty : Made one error without looking up.Got away with it but in general was a super companion for Danny Young.

We really got the substitutions wrong today:

The Pinns/Side substitution was probably made because Pinns was getting bogged down by his marker - strange to have brought on Side who is virtually a Pinnock clone. Akinde for Pinnock would have made more sense - two big men up front would have worried them a lot more.

I think everyone was surprised at the Coleman/Bagley substitution - an unneccessary substitution as Coleman was on a high after scoring (& the best new signing on display today).

Of course Haworth/Akinde was forced upon us - hope Rob was just taken off as a precautionary measure & it's nothing too serious.

Bagley seems to have got the blame for the Chelmsford goal, but it was a magnificent strike from 30 or more yards out so the credit must be to the striker rather than a mistake by Margate.

I think the strength of the wind had a lot to do with it too, difficult for all of the players at times, the ball was not going where anyone wanted it.

Thought Harte and Young both coped with the conditions very well, kept the ball low, and that way it went where it should.

Skins was absolutely magnificent today as well. Should have scored too, but took too much time to switch the ball on to his other foot.

Agree With Cookies first post and with HDF.IMO,we were the better side today and if that bit of luck was with us the GATE would have won today, but thats football for you,a very good game very entertaining, with JS not playing today, next week we can only be better than today and that is good news for MFC.
