Well done lads good first game performance ... nice to show the rest of the league what we're made of from the word go! Keep bagging goals in and we'll be well on our way! grin First time ive watched ricay this year and i have to say that all the players looked really sharp and the 3 forwards that played today looked like a lot of goals could be heading their way. Anyone got any news on the boot's injury?

Great performance and although we will face stiffer opposition than Hastings , it was nice to see us being a bit ruthless for a change and giving someone a pasting on the scoreline.

Pretty good performances from all but I was delighted to see Bradley get some reward for his non stop efforts - he is going to cause headaches to a few defences this season. Lets hope Tony Boot gets back from injury quickly, he didn't deserve that after such a good performance.

Hornchurch should be interesting , they won 5 - 4 at Ashford Middx today !!

Oh, and we are already 2 points ahead of the squatters.

6-0 I'm told is our biggest ever opening day win... We were clinical in front of goal, particularly in the second half, and we made a lot of runs off the ball that on another day would have resulted in chances... Still room for us to improve though, 3 very tough games coming up now, I doubt many centre backs will be as generous as hasting's number 5 (scored 1, made 1).

McSweeney Heffer Blewitt Kerrigan

Abbott Hunter Dormer Hodges

Woods-Garness Boot

Subs

Flack for Boot

Game for Hodges

Wareham for Abbott

Splendid performance and result. Hastings werent the best team well play this year by a long shot, but ricays performance was top class, confident and hard working. Some lovely football played. This game and this colchester game have struck me as being so much more confident and fluent in attack than last yr.

Garness looked fantastic today, not just going forward, but tracking back and winning us possesion back too. His goal was pure class start to finish, a wonderful move.

Its easy to get overexcited about the result, its 1 game out of 42, 3 points. However if we play like that all season, well be doing alright.

The one thing that seems to have changed the most from last year is the attacking line-up. We did struggle for goals last year, and its not surprising - Nathan left midway through the season, and in some games we were playing one striker with Game in behind. Burbridge was our second best striker for a large proportion of the season, and like him or not, he cant exactly be described as prolific.

This year we have

Flack - top scorer from last year. Took up the challenge fantastically from the winter onwards after Nathan left, one of the players of the season last year.

Boot - A proven striker who, though ive only seen him a couple of times, clearly has a good eye for goal. Took his chances well today. Well miss him through injury, but hopefully not for too long.

Woods-Garness - Seen him play twice and been very impressed both times. Hadnt heard of him before we signed him, but Matt Jones has obviously done very well to get him here. Pacy, good touch, runs all day and tracks back too. Good shot on him and good in the air considering his height. Looks a class above at this level, and if he performs for Billericay consistently the way he did today, id be surprised if he didnt follow in Elder and Whelpdales footsteps and jump up a few divisions straight from us (early days i know).

Burbridge - Im not the biggest fan of his, but hes a good player to have as a back up striker. Underperformed last year, but in a few games he upped his game a lot and we saw what hes capable of. If he can get a chance of a run out and reproduce that sort of form, he might be difficult to drop, especially if Boot is injured for a bit.

Anyway, have rambled on a bit and getting a bit overexcited after just one game. Next 3 games will all be very tough. Couldnt really ask for a much tougher run than trips to Hornchurch and Carshalton, followed by Chelmo. After those three games well have a much better impression of our chances this season than now.

See you all tuesday, meanwhile enjoy the memories of our best ever opening day to a season, and enjoy being (although almost meaninglessly) top of the league.

BBB= Bertie Big Bollox

It would relate to the general attitude of the claret faithful many of which seem to believe their team are a league side in waiting

a read of their message board is highly recommenced on a Monday morning after they've lost as the level of criticism and vitriol aimed towards their players is hilarious, player ratings out of ten tend not to progress above 3 or 4

Top performance on the day!!! I am still in between gobsmacked and surprise (I'm sure someone of note will ask me "why?") as, not in my wildest dreams could I have thought that we'd tuck a team away like that on the first day of league action.

Jamie Dormer alluded to it, when I interviewed him, that the players are hungrier and more detirmined than last season and boy, on that showing, he wasn't wrong!!! Well done to everyone on the pitch.
