Not on Setanta!

Ebbsfleet, Grays, Aldershot, Woking, Stevenage, Burton, Salisbury, Stafford and (it looks like ?) Forest Green and Rushden & Diamonds are the clubs currently refusing to pay their cameramen extra to send footage of their Home games to Setanta.

There may be others where the cameramen volunteered to send in footage free of charge for tonight's show, but I can't afford to do that, and neither can the cameramen of the clubs I have mentioned above.

It's unfortunate that the midweek Away match was at one of those clubs (Salisbury), but Woking and Rushden were also not shown at all.

Yeah, lucky escape, I was talking about getting this at some point this month

I filmed Grays v. Woking and that footage is not going anywhere unless Setanta pay me for it.

Don't blame the cameramen. This is all the Conference's fault for telling Setanta we are all 'volunteers' who give them footage free of charge.

Yeah but Stu to be fair you can cancel that anytime. It's not Cameraman's fault, he can't do it for nothing.

Someone should do something about this, I bet Setanta don't expect to get the Premier Leagues Highlights’ for nothing.

Cameraman I have two questions that you may have already answered but I can't find anywhere.

1 Who pays for you to film the game at the moment, if you don't mind me asking. Obviously you don't have to answer this question if you don't want to as it is personal to you. If you're filming the game already then it's still being done so where is the problem? I have spoken to a friend of another Conference Club who knows more or less the ins and out’s of it all but there is something I'm still confused with. I hope you can clear this up for me. I suppose my question eludes to supply and demand and as the demand for it is not that high does that not mean it isn't worth anything. Although I know what you’re saying about not doing it for free but as your doing it anyway...

2 On September 24th we play Crawley at home which is on Setanta, who will do the filming and will the Cameraman be paid? I remember last season hearing that Sky couldn't get footage of Hereford's matches because their cameraman wouldn't give Sky the footage and the club would only allow one cameraman up into the gantry (or whatever it's called) at a time. I believe Hereford were under no obligation to allow the Sky man up there so gave permission for their own Cameraman only. As far as I can see this is the same issue, Sky wanted the footage for free and the Cameraman wasn't willing to give it to them. I don't know what happened in the end. Will Setanta have their own cameraman and if so will there be space for both of you. Will the club be obligated to just let Setanta's man up there or will they pay you? Please clarify.

In answer to your first question, the club pay me a minimal amount (and I mean minimal !) to film every home game and provide an unedited copy for both Team Managers straight after the final whistle.
This is completely seperate to the matter of giving TV companies the same footage.
If a TV company (in this case Setanta) want me to work for them as well, then they pay me as well.
I have no idea what you are on about with your comment 'my question eludes to supply and demand and as the demand for it is not that high does that not mean it isn't worth anything.'

For question 2, you are getting confused with live matches and the provision of highlights by club cameramen from matches that are not shown live.
I will not be there for the Crawley game and I will not get paid by the club. The Managers will just tape it off the telly themselves.
For non-live matches, Setanta won't be sending their own cameraman because they can't afford to pay them.

I have never heard of Sky (or any other TV company) expecting to get footage for free from pro cameramen.
In fact, Setanta are not asking to get footage for 'free' either. The problem is that the Conference told Setanta that the clubs would be paying us the additional money to do Setanta's work for them out of their sponsorship money, but the Conference never told the clubs...so the clubs have already budgeted to spend it all on players' wages instead.

Harry, I can assure you that most club secretaries, chief execs & chairman in the Blue Square Premier League are even more confused.
They are all telling their cameramen completely different things and it's all down to a lack of information being given to them by the Conference.

It's not just the Setanta deal, but how many copies we are supposed to be doing for the Team Managers and in what format.
Do they need them on DVD ?
Do they still want them on VHS tape ?
Do we have to give the Referee a free copy ?
Should we all be paid the same fee for doing this work for the clubs ?

From speaking to my fellow club cameramen over the past few weeks, it appears every club does something different because the Conference have never sent them any clear instructions in writing.

By the way, I would love to see my footage of Ebbsfleet & Grays Home matches shown on Setanta and I'm gutted that I can't really do that at the moment.
Let's hope something gets resolved as soon as possible.
