HARROW Borough chairman Peter Rogers is expecting Edgware Town to honour their groundsharing agreement and pay the Earlsmead club the £20,000 agreed in the deal, despite the Wares doing a u-turn and announcing that they will now remain at the White Lion Ground.

Six weeks ago Edgware were on the brink of extinction after their sponsors Galliard Homes withdrew their financial support in the wake of the news of the planned sale of the White Lion Ground by owners Edgeware Developments to Barratt Homes for £16million.

Told to vacate the ground by the end of the year, and with the new season imminent, Edgware's demise seemed inevitable until Harrow came to the rescue with their groundshare offer. Terms were agreed and a contract signed and, with Edgware set to receive funding for the season from an anonymous donour, they were all set to move in to Earlsmead.

But now Barratt Homes have pulled out of buying the White Lion. Galliard, who hold the lease on the ground on Edgware's behalf, which still has two years to run, have renewed their interest and have agreed to restore funding for the club for a year, allowing them to return to the White Lion, their home for the past 68 years.

Said Edgware secretary Paul Gregory: "It means we've go a year to do something and to look at other avenues with maybe Prince Edward a possibility. After the merry go round of the past few weeks, anything could happen."

...

I have to say this sets of alarm bells ringing, so Galliard, are back funding Edgware now, what is there to stop the freeholders from finding another buyer, and then Galliard selling the lease to for the highest price, and what is there to stop them doing this NEXT WEEK!!!

How secure will the club be during the season is what I am thinking, we already know that a clause in the lease means that in 2009 the club could be told to leave, I doubt they will be at the White Lion Ground in 2009.

Are Galliard, going to stump up the £20,000 that Edgware owe Harrow Borough, seeing it was THIER fault, as they pulled out of funding the club as they had been offered a tidy sum to sell their lease on the ground.

I really worry about the future of Edgware Town, something just does not seem right, why should Galliard being holding all the aces, but at any time a bid they like comes in they will sell up and the club will be screwed again, this time more so as I dont see anyone rushing in to offer a groundshare after pulling out from Harrow Borough.

Steve Newing did not mention who the club's sponsors were when he was interviewed on the radio on Monday night, but it appears to be common knowledge that Galliard bankrolling the club and that they own the short lease and it is THEM who decided to sell to the freeholders at a price that inticed them and thus left the club in the crap

Do they intend to give Edgware a sum when they leave the White Lion Ground,or are they going to walk away with the profit from selling the lease to the freeholders? I dobut it very much, after all Galliard are the official club sponsors of Grays Athletic in the Conference league and no doubt are bankrolling them in the hope of reaching the Football League, why worry about little old Edgware then?.

"Galliard, who hold the lease on the ground on Edgware's behalf,"

"Ground owned by edgware developments."

it looks as if someone at the club had to do a deal with the devil to save the club in the past.

payback time is round the corner.

Personally I dont think the club should have pulled out of the agreement it had, its dropped the others in the pooh and reflects badly on the current "management"

And who suffers?

Im sorry for you Gavin truly.

I have to say that you've got to see it from Harrow Borough's perspective, they must feel hard done by.

Spurs fan I have to agree with you, I think this going to bite Edgware on the [****!!****] and fully agree that Harrow Borough have the right to ask for the money as the contract was leagally binding.

Not only could Edgware now be forced to pay £20000 to HBFC, but if they take it to court and sue Edgware for damages it could be a lot worse, the best that Edgware could hope for is to do some kind of 'deal' and pay Harrow off a percentage of what they would be have been owed, but it depends if Harrow stick out for the full ammount which I imagine they are entitled to.

I also agree it shows the club up in a bad light, Harrow came to Edgware's aid and had it not been for them then Edgware would not be able to take their place in the Ryman League, now when the deal for the ground goes belly up, Edgware say thanks but no thanks to Harrow and remain at the WLG.

Something stinks at the club, Galliard should not be able to hold so much power over Edgware, I dont doubt whatsover that within a couple of months another deal will be on the table and Galliard could just say right we agree and goodbye Edgware.

Having burnt thier bridges with Harrow I dont see any other local clubs coming to Edgware's aid in a hurry.

I have to say, I fear for the future of the club, and would even go as far to say that it could be with hindsight that Edgware should have not gone back to the White Lion Ground, but honoured their groundshare at Harrow Borough.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing Gav but the 'emotive' element of going back to the WLG was perhaps a greater factor than the cold facts of the business side of things.

I wish you and Edgware well.

Emotive or not, the club signed a legally binding contract and have regnwed on it,as an Edgawre fan of course I would like to see the club at it's home the White Lion Ground, but this sends out bad signs around football, who is going to come to the clubs aid should they need a groundshare this season?

There is nothing to say galliard wont do this again, leave the club in the crap, and with no local clubs coming to the air it will be the end of the club.

Paul Gregory speaks of the PEPF site, but there is no optio for a clubshouse or function room for Edgware, I fear that the writin is well and truly on the wall for the club.

As I said the whole thing stinks, wont supprise me if this time next week the club are being 'asked' to move on due to another property development.

This is just part of the reason why I WONT be attending Edgware matches this season. I have already told those at Edgware on my Edgware forum, plus I am in ill health, I think I may call it a day and move on.

Kentish Town could be the place for you Gav!! You and Rhodes would make a much better comedy pairing than Ian St John and Tarby laugh
