Two Horse Race - Or IS it?

Recommended Posts

Going through the end of season predictions(i.e 1 point for 1st & 22 points for being 22nd etc) I notice that AFC WIMBLEDON & CHELMSFORD come out 1st & 2nd by a clear margin.

But is it REALLY a two horse race to the title?

Who do you think could upset the applecart & most peoples expectations? Who can push these two clubs for the title? Or is it Really & Truly a two-horse race to the finishing line after all?

"Besides Ian 10/1 could well be 3rd favourite. There are two stand out clubs there(those you mention) & who knows it could be 10/1 bar 2".

I wasn't that far out then.!

I agree,AFC HORNCHURCH would be my choice to fight out the finish with the two market leaders.

Us as a "surprise" contender.(Sorry just being optimistic & biased also along with Alan with that one) laugh wink

However, having said that & having seen our team taking shape it might not be as far fetched as some might think!

Hendon and Carshalton to make playoffs. Both AFC's in top ten but no higher than 7th. Chlemo just scrape playoff place. Team to finish top well if I know that but then I would have backed them at the bookies earlier and got a better price on them.

Whilst i think they will do quite well, i can't quite see why everyone fancies Hornchurch to do quite so wel as predicted.

Is it a two horse race-sadly yes imo.

BUT 'Gate need only finish 3-5th and win two playoff games and you still get promoted.

Frankly, and with great respect to all of those who have posted on this topic, I don't really care where any of the other sides finish in the league as long as they are below us. And that is not to knock the quality of those other sides.

Just look at Jeff Trice's site and remind ourselves of what Margate FC is, alright we have had a few problems of late but we are still here.

From what I have seen of the pre season games we have some quality players in the squad and I don't think that they are there to come second - no-one remembers who came second anyway.

Let's be really positive as a club and go for the championship.

Fair point and i would tend to agree that squad is probably about same strength today as this time last year.

Need to recall that the likes of Jay and Sappleton who obviously strengghened the squad did not come on board to about October and december,so today, the 'squad strength' on paper is imo about same as this stage last year.

The difference being that the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Chelmsford have considerably stregthend their squads compared to last year.

I guess by this time tomorrow, we will have a much better idea of where we stand

I think everyone is being positive though, but you need to add a touch of realism.

By all means 'lets 'shoot for the stars'
